I just read the news article about the death of a 10 year old boy by "dry drowning". The article stated that almost 600 people die every year from dry drowning and the worst part is that majority is children. Most parents have no idea what "dry drowning" is and negligence is a major cause. Parents need to understand how dry drowning works. when water is forced into the lungs, and it doesn't have to be much, even a little amount of water can shut the airways in lungs and cause oxygen shortage. This can happen during a fun summer day at the pool, due to high diving and or in water slides.
The signs are extreme fatigue and strange behavior due to lack of oxygen to brain. The child must be rushed to emergency room.
Try searching for the news and read more details on the issue. Also, I would like to know how many of you already knew about it and what are your concerns?

Strangely, I just heard about this phenomenon on the news this week. A boy was at the pool all day, seemingly ok, had dinner and went to bed, only to pass away overnight. They mentioned the 'dry drowning', only I can't find the link to the story I heard. It was tragic too (and now that I think about it, it must have been the same story you're mentioning above). I had never heard of it before.
