I got a job! but then... decisions decisions..

Yesterday, I was thankful to God amidst what happened. I applied for a job and on the first try, I got the job offer. I do need a job as I'm almost on a 3 months hiatus. So there I was, the lucky one among almost 50 applicants and 6 others from their own batches, and it was the final interview with the manager. Everything went well. I even had to do role play with an almost unreal situation. Then.. I passed. However, the salary was depressing.... They offered my only 1/3 of what I was previously making... that was absurd. I am open to lower my salary a bit as I am just starting again. But not that much. The facility was like a warehouse and there were very few employees. I only saw around 20-30 and the place was like for 300+ or so. I thanked God for the chance and for making me pass it. But I had to make a decision and I'll be turning them down. I have another one in process as well. And it's from my old company. It's around 85% percent chances.

Be wise my friend. Yes, you passed it all but what about the following days. You will end up blaming yourself for doing such stupid decision. At first , you already saw the working environment. Until when can you stand it. Secondly, the salary. You should give up one for a more better job. Be patient , there are still so many job opportunity awaiting for you. Just believe in your talent.

Use this for your self esteem. You know already that you are employable. Smart move turning it down. you don't want to be job hopping. Good luck to you and I am sure this next opportunity will do the trick!

Thanks for the advise. Well, yes, I am turning them down. As you have mentioned, I would probably live like hell in that place. Some people there are nice though. But I've seen things that I can't bear aside from the environment. 1. We were applicant but a trainer just came from nowhere and asked each one of us a lot of things. He felt he was already the boss. He said, "I handle your teams". In my mind I said, "I didn't sign. I'm not on your team. So shut up.". We just looked at each other and almost laughed. 2. Guess who gave us a tour of the place. THE FREAKIN' SECURITY GUARD!?!?! 3. Our interviewer was late for more than an hour!!! When I was doing interviews, the most I went late was 10 minutes due to client call.

Oh and laglen, that was pretty impressive. I was actually using it as leverage for my self on future interviews.

Well done for getting the job and also for making the difficult decision of turning it down. Good luck with the interview at your old employer, I hope all goes well. 85% is very high odds and much more salary eh! Ellie :D

Thanks Ellie! Well... it wasn't that hard of a decision to make. The offer was just plain awful . Here's another thing that happened. During the first interview, they asked me what salary I'm expecting. I did. The interviewer said, can you go lower than that? I said yes. I lowered it to the actual amount I'm gunning for. Then, on the final interview, the next interviewer said, what if we offer you lower than what you expect? I just wanted to be respectful but just a little more and I would have said "well, don't expect me to meet your expectations as well, can you lower yours?".

it is really absurd. what I say, look at the conditions of the job. if you can afford to wait for some more time, then look out for another. also is it possible to leave this job in short notice after you get another. take decision based on those

Thank you for the input. Yeah, it was a really tough decision to make. I can still wait until the 3rd week of June. I have plans on wednesday for a new company. There is an easy way out but most probably it won't look good on my profile that I left within just a few days/weeks. I appreciate your responses.

Just an update. Around an hour ago, I went there and personally informed them that I am turning down their offer. Actually, they increased what they offered me the first time. However, the contract was not complete and I wanted to protect myself. The base salary was there and the rest of the benefits. However, it was really contractual in terms of time. It only said a year. I was also offered another job instead of what they first gave me. Plus, I only had around 5-10 minutes to completely review and sign the contract. Too little to even skim the contract. I have thought when I left that it was really good that I am knowledgeable of contracts and I did find lapses in it. It was like I was forced to sign it. I can't complain later as they have my signature so I did not sign it. As courtesy, I confronted them and informed them nicely that I will not be signing and I thanked them for the opportunity. They even gave me open door to apply again as a last resort. I appreciate that on their part. Now, I'm on to my next application. I am more determined now than ever.

If I were you, I won't accept it. With the current cost of living in this country, chances are you'll end up your expenses is more than what you earn. You need a job for a living and if this one would not give you a little comfort in your earnings, better wait for another one in line. Just be a little patient.

Thanks! Yeah, that salary per month won't cut it. It is more than average but for the industry it's in? no way. I don't mean to be rude, but they don't deserve me. It is just 10 minutes away from home though and very accessible. But my previous work is around 15 minutes away and is very famous. Kinda lifts my spirit.

Well, I already declined their offer. I already got a job at another company and I'm glad I waited. I got 30% more base pay plus more benefits. Location-wise, they're just a block apart though. thanks for the response.
