Competitieve? Niamh? Never!

Niall and Niamh - Niall and Niamh - there may be rivalry but they are still friends!

Where do I start with this one? Ok well most of my fiends will know about my 2 kids, 6 year old daughter Niamh and 14 year old son Niall, both can make me climb the walls but are really good kids at heart. Anyway within the last 10 days both have had their school reports and both were so good they were absolutely glowing. Niamh brought her report home with her on Friday afternoon, we had already had Niall's about a book by then and whilst I praised Niamh I also tempered it by saying that her and Niall were both fantastic and I was proud of them both yadda, yadda, yadda! Next thing is Niamh is sitting writing a letter but we are used to that so didn't pay much attention til she started asking Niall's headteachers name and how to spell it. to cut a long story short she went out the back door to play in the garden and then a letter came through the front door. When she came in she fetched the letter from the front door . The envelope was addresse to my partner and I and here is what the letter inside said, complete with the original spelling:Dear Miss F and Mr G we are sorry we gave you Nialls Report from Second year (he is just finishing third year now) It was actully all diffrent he got nothing right he is rubbish in every he gets to do. We will send you the reall report next week Singht truly Mrs S There was even a tear of receipt slip that we have to sign and return to the school! LOL I was in so much pain from laughing it was unreal - even Niall was laughing until he decided he would get a little bit indignant! Something tells me she wanted to get all the praise - what do you guys think? Have your kids ever done anything this sneaky? lol No worries by the way as the photo I am attaching was taken just after and as you can see they are happy together! lol xxxx

That had me in fits of laughter! You could write a show couldn't you on it, that would be so much worth watching that the rubbish reality tv you see, yours is genuine and family based as opposed to put on, boring shenanigans! Makes you feel soooo good doesn't it and it makes me happy to know that you are laughing sis! It's a fine balance isn't it sure they have their bad days, we all do but they sure made up for it, I love those photos, great memories too, treasured and loved and each hold a story of their own. As a child I was never sneaky, ok maybe a little bit, alright if truth be known I was very sneaky on the boarder of being sly but my mum knew me too well cos I could never keep a straight face! She could see right through me, hang on, er she still can! D'oh! You think your children have amazed you until they pull another stunt just as good! Keep em coming Niamh (oooops don't let Niall here me say that) or he'll pull my ears off!! xxx

Put that tongue away PMSL! I loved the letter, I wish I had been like Niamh at her age, mind you not to late to learn is it, ask Niamh if she can teach me a few tricks, she'd wipe the floor with some of the 'individuals' I have come across and I am sure she would take no hostages, go Niamh go!!! (bad wolfie sorry sis, musn't encourage her!) but boy do I admire her!

LOL Niall would never do anything like that to you - he loves his Uncle Wolfie! I sometimes sit in amazement at some of the things she does and think OMG no one will believe I haven't made this up! lol I have the scan of the letter to back it up - I did send you a copy of that didn't I? I am getting so forgetful! I know you are right - the bad times are more than made up for with fun and games and love that totally outshine any strop or tantrum! Love and Hugs,xxxx PS I didn't tell Niamh what you said as she doesn't need any more encouragement!

They learn young in your house Mummymo. LOL. A very bright little girl. That's got me smiling now. I can just imagine it. I hope that you took it "seriously"! Now, what's Niall going to do to get his revenge I wonder? LOL. Sounds like an "apple pie" bed to me. I think that is just so wonderful that they get on so well.

Glad I could make you smile - I thought this would do it! I tried to take her seriously but I am afraid I dissolved into laughter - I just couldn't help it, she does love to make us laugh though so that is ok! An "apple pie" bed - is that where it is made to look like a bed is there and when they go to get in it falls through or is it where you crush up lots of apple pies in the bed? They do get on well in general but don;t forget they argued so much one day last week they BOTH got sent to bed at 7.30! lol Hugs xxx

LOL I think Niall would tie himself in knots trying to do that so we are safe! lol i see I shall have to keep him away from you - that boarding school education has probably taught you many more tricks! lol xxx
@p1kef1sh (45681)

An apple pie bed is when you turn the bottom sheet so that the "end" is only about 2' down the bed. You pull the sheet back up and fold over the top of the other sheets and blankets or duvet. When someone gets into it they can't lie down. I knew that a boarding school education would come in useful one day. LOL.

The only competition here at my apt for my attention is btw my two males, one human and one furry. They go out of their way to do it too, my furry son, montana will get in trouble just so ill call him by his first and middle name, (i gave both my kitties my real sons middle name, so they would know when they are trouble)lol Now my finacee thats a different story he knows very quickly when hes in trouble, ill raise an eyebrow and say in that certain tone we all possess, "EXCUSE ME?" Funny how some kids don't care what attention they get as long as they get it good or bad. Even the big kids. It was the same way when i was a sub teacher k-8, you could weed those kids out right away, and i would quietly talk to them, and give my class a project after all work of the real teacher was done. I would say, ok i would like you all to draw me a picture of anything that tells me what you are like and what you do like. And it wont be graded but ill take it home with me to remember you all by. The kids ate it up. But you know even the troubled kids it would show up in their artwork, which was very sad. Some were even abused by their own siblings. I found it to be very hard to be a sub teacher, never knowing what was to be my assignment til 8am and seeing a 2ft pile of work on my desk, even for the youngest ones. Plus i saw many things in schools done by the teachers or staff, i didnt approve of. If i ever teach again it will be under my terms under my room. Someday, when my guy and i get our own home, id love to teach children again to draw and paint. I found out with too many schools the childrens confinence in themselves was torn down where they no longer believed in their own gifts or abilities. I want the chance to change that like i did when i was able to teach intercession art classes i was given full reign and it was great. Back to what mummy was saying though, my son used to do things to get my attention and not all was good. And trust me he got lots of love from me and attention the good kind. From him when he got to high school he once told me it was more popular to be dumb in school. That made me mad. I knew how smart my son was. But kids get in wrong crowds. And things change too quickly from the time they are little to teenagers, enjoy the time you have with them while they are very young cause it goes by very fast. Lish

I do that Lish - use their full names if they are in trouble - even with the cat too! lol Sounds like it was really difficult when you were a substitute teacher but I can see the kids loving you wanting to know about them and remember them! I bet you loved being an art teacher - Niamh says her favourite subject - even though she is way above average for the 'academic' subjects! xxx

They usually do get a great treat for good reports - a few years ago Niall got a new phone - can't really afford that these days so will probably get them a treat we normally wouldn't do when on holiday in 2 weeks! Awwww, how cute was that? She certainly knows what she's about, but methinks it was just a joke. Amazing, she even remembered the tear off slip for return to the school. How funny! Bless her little cotton socks! It won't be too long before she starts getting all the praise I guess, with Niall being that much older. Love the photo, by the way. They both look quite content in that, as you say. Brightest Blessings, my dear friend. xxx

Yes, I know you like to treat them alike... it's difficult sometimes, though, huh? Sorry to set you thinking about them growing up, but it comes to us all at some stage in our lives, my friend. Better that you're prepared, I guess. As for the socks... I always wanted to know that too, but ended up buying coloured ones. xxx

Fore warned is fore armed as they say huh Darkwing? It really hit home the other day as Niall went off to the Train Station to travel to the Scottish Education awards as one of 4 guests his eco club leader could invite as she was a finalist! All 6'1" of him in his suit, shirt and tie looking so grown up! It was quite emotional and I had tears in my eyes until I looked down at his shoes and had to laugh - my boy was still my baby, he had polished his shoes but his laces were broken on both shoes! lol Coloured socks are a plan or would be if the other half wouldn't put them in the washing with lights and whites and dye everything else! lol Guess I'll have to stick to bleaching them! xxxx

LOl We do try to keep praising both of them honey I guess she was just fed up as Niall had nearly a week of praise and it was her turn now! lol I never thought of the fact that Niall would be off to Uni or working in a few years and Niamh would be getting all the praise to herself - Oh gosh that is a scary thought! As for Niamhs cotton socks - any ideas for keeping them white for more than a minute after she first wears them? lol xxx

She sounds like a real little character bless her! I think kids are so funny in their ways and what they do to get all the attention. Mine have never been that sneaky yet but if I praise one then another will come up to me and say "yes but I did such and such the other day". I usually find a reason to give the others a little praise for something just so they do not feel left out!

That is very funny mummymo, LOL! I can bet, you were laughing while writing this delightful account of your kids:-) Niamh, competitive? Never?!!! If anything, it certainly shows her intelligence and tact and I believe that with the wise guidance/direction from her parents, she will do great in any field especially one that requires intelligence and tactfulness. They look great in the photo, too, loving and caring for each other. They do quite a lot of interesting and funny things around this age, all in innocense, just to get attention or get their job done, LOL!
