I like both cats and dogs. IF i had to choose one or the other though i would choose a cat. I just like cats better for some reason. I have always been a cat person more than i have been a dog person. I guess its just personal preference.

they can be...
it depends on which cat you get
how old is your son?
that would also play a huge role

One thing for sure, since your son is a 3 yr. old, no matter what pet you get, you must be with your child at all times when the pet is with him. No matter how much your child LOVES animals, things happen at that age. My son was a HUGE animal lover but when he was alone with the dog, he did things to make the dog bite him.(jumped on him while playing with him,the dog bit him) It was not the dog's fault. The thing is, my son knew what NOT to do but at 3 yrs. old, kids do not 'think' or remember.Know what I mean?

i prefer a dog... coz a dog is a good companion and the dogs are MAN'S BESTFRIEND. they can guide you and guard you. makes u feel safe than a cat... cats are ok but still i like a dog more!

well it is difficult to say which is better. it depends more on your needs and your luck. generally, cats are cleaner animals. but some are so aloof that they'll just hide all day. dogs are usually more play-friendly but sometimes they can be messy. i've known messy cats and i've know aloof dogs as well. i have 3 cats at home with totally different character. one hides all day, one wants to be carried most of the time and one just wants to be loved. btw, how old is your son?

It is so hard to pick. I love cats because my nan has so many of them and i had to get rid of my cat Scratchy. But now i have a dog called Ruby and my nan has a new dog called Tina i think i am going to have to be a dog person. i think dogs are more loyal than cats because dogs live in packs and cats are loners. I apoligise to people with cats who might find that statement offesnsive. My dog Ruby is so special to me, she sleeps in my bed at night and warms up my toes i love her so much so yea, i am a dog person.
I hope you get tons of responses, i think this disscusion deserves them, good luck on mylot.

Hello,
I love both , but cats have always been my favorite. The loss of a pet can be hard, and when the time is right i think you should look into it. Cats are easier to take care of . It depends what you are looking for as well . If you want a pet to play outide and go for walks then of course a dog is best . Cat are very loving and will never fail to amuse you . For a kid i think i dog would be a lot more fun ;)

I personally like cats better. Dont get me wrong i'm a huge animal lover i actually have 5 cats, 2 dogs and 2 turtles. I'm a huge softy when it comes to animals. but cats have that special personailty that you dont get with other animals. But if your looking for a animal for a young child i would go with a dog, maybe a little dog. They dont eat very much and dont take up very much room, and your son could easily play with it. I think its a great idea for children to be around animals, that way they learn how to treat and love them.

Any pet you have is going to require responsibility to take care of it clean up after it, and feed it. Cats are more self contained and require less maintenance, I litter box is a lot easier to clean then to take the dog out several times a day and then clean up after it. Cats are akso more independent and often will not want to play when your son does. Dogs are loyal and all ways there for you. All ways willing to be a friend and play. I personally much prefer dogs. They can be your best friend.

I am not a cat lover, sorry. So I recommend a pet dog. We have a german shepherd and Japanese spitz and both are adorable...they are really considered as man's best friend. Good luck...however, it would be best for you to bring your son to the petshop so that he can choose the pet that would be adorable for him and convenient for you.

hi mam.. ur absolutely correct.. .we can't tolerate the pain if we lose our pets.. because they are very interactive and they also play a role as a baby...
they are lovable because of their innocense...according to me dogs are more intimate than cats... as we know dogs are faithful... all pets are inteligent and if we give practise they will obey us.... i think pets are a wonderful creation of god ...
dogs are more active than cats and i prefer ur son to suggest for a dog...

i think it depends on your lifestyle.. one thing you should FIRST consider in choosing your pet is always the RESPONSIBILITY... it was our fault that there are stray dogs all over america and now we are the one barbaric enough to go on killing them, because someone was smart enough to get a dog and realize that the responsibility was too much...
so please.. dont always think of what kind of pet you are going to get, the coat, the color, the breed.. always think if you can handle the responsiblity of taking care of another living thing.. there's always time, effort, money to consider.

Hi, I had a Dog and now have 3 cats. first off i must say i miss my dog, cats are boring all they do is eat and sleep. Dogs on the other hand are fun , they can learn some tricks, they will usually bark if some1 gets close to the house which is always useful for security purposes. A dog will teach your son how to be responsible and how to look after things , whereas the cat will bore him and make him wish he never got it. Unless of course he likes sitting around staring at a furball sleeping on the couch all day. :)
