Does God hate women?

I am copying and pasting some choice ideas about women that the world's greatest religions have from http://secweb.infidels.org/?kiosk=articles&id=203.
Islam
"Allah will curse those procrastinating women who, when their husbands call them to their beds, say 'I will, I will . . .' until he falls asleep."
Christianity
"Let the women learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression" (I Tim. 2: 11-14; probably pseudo-Pauline).
Judaism
"Anything a man wants to do with his wife, he shall do. It is like meat that has come from the slaughterhouse; wants to eat it salted, he eats it. Roasted--he eats it. Boiled--he eats it." (p. 491, # 165).
Hinduism
The "Disposition of Women" receives considerable attention in the Mahabharata (Anusasana Parva). Having declared that "women are the root of all evil", and that they "wish to transgress the restraints assigned to them"
Buddhism
A vignette from Digha Nikaya (a part of the Tipitaka, the doctrinal foundation of Theravada Buddhism) serves to set the tone of Buddhist attitudes toward women:
"'How are we to conduct ourselves, lord, with regards to womankind?' 'As not seeing them, Ananda.' 'But if we should see them, what are we to do?' 'No talking, Ananda.' 'But if they should speak to us, lord, what are we to do?' 'Keep wide awake, Ananda'" (# 16, quoted in Gross, 1993, p. 44)

So, is religion really for women? Does God hate women? If so, for what reason? As a woman, I have done nothing wrong, and I am sure other women haven't done anything wrong.

Honestly, not to offend anyone (I am a Christian) but I firmly believe ALL religious writings to be corrupted by the societies of the time. I believe that the Christian bible is NOT what Jesus originally intended and is NOT 100% the word of God. I believe that the bible was tainted by the social ideas and beliefs held by people at the time. These ideas were incorporated into the bible so that there would be a legitimate reinforcement for them. For example, women were supposed to be subservient according to the societal rules. Hence, this was put in the bible LATER and is likely NOT the word of an all-loving God. The bible has SO MANY contradictions even on the subject of women alone that it really cannot be said to be purely the word of God. It is clear there must have been some tampering, some additions and some additions to the original intentions of what the bible should have said.

Yup, I agree with you! But many times, I wonder what really happened during the time of Jesus. There are so many gospels and so many conflicting views.
Cheers and thanks for responding

A Christian with common sense. Who knew there was such a thing! LOL
Agree with your statement. Woman was to be a help mate beside her man. Not walking five feet behind him. It was his rib she came from not further south.
Question: If men came from dust then return to dust. Why don't women return to ribs? LOL

Its really amazing to see the collection of things, that you have given here.. of course you share with us what you come across.
I firmly believe all religion is created and the principle of all religion do strongly advise us the " Love all, serve all". It tells us, to see every individual as brother and sisters..
And it is perhaps the evil disposition in the minds of the those who interpret the teachings of the religion send wrong signals in the society..
And Sonia,.. if at all i come across the person who have written this article, i would definitely ask him/her... "What vengeance you have with God"..

I read this article, and the person who wrote it doesn't seem to have "any vengeance with God" :) The article was based on research of the Holy Books. At least having read the Bible, I know for sure that women were classed with cattle; they were not supposed to be human beings. And being Indian, I know the status of women in our country. Even today, women are burnt for not getting enough dowry or burned as witches in remote villages. It all points to a hatred of women that comes out of religious beliefs.

I can only agree with what I've read here.
Man have been the ones to write down the words of the bible, they have been in charge for a long while as woman were not allowed in schools, to vote or anything like that. Nowadays woman get along just as fine as man do.
In fact there are a lot more succesfull female higher education graduated than there are male, so that's a good example of woman getting back on track and taking charge ;) Odd thing is that most professors are still man.
They blame it on the fact most woman want to work part-time (read: kids) which isn't good when wanting to make a carreer. So they have the skills but want to combine work with other things like a family, sports, hobbies, etc.

LOL, you are absolutely right. The Bible seems to be full of men, men, and more men. After long chapters of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, and half way through Judges, I finally found ONE woman of value, a prophetess called Deborah!!

A small misinterpretation on the Hinduism part. In fact if you go to the roots of Hinduism, man and women are always equal. The origins of words - Shiva (male) and Shakti (female). So in Sanskrit, every word has two forms - Shiva and Shakti. The goddess of wealth is Laxmi - goddess. And the goddess of Knowledge and Wisdom is Saraswati - goddess again. And what could be more important than wealth and knowledge or wisdom!! You do have many other Goddesses, but I won't go into the details for I myself don't know much!
Of course, like all religions, later on it got corrupted, and with time it became pathetic to say the least, but the original religion always had women in very high esteem. In fact it was considered a very good omen if the first born child is a girl child (wondering what happened to that now!) She was supposed to bring in wealth and happiness to the family.

The vedic culture was among the world's best. I agree! Now, I dunno much about this myself, but I remember reading the Mahabharata when I was a kid. Pandu, who couldn't have kids, wanted his wife to try for a kid with the gods. When his wife hesitated Pandu further assured her saying, "In the past, women were more free than they are now. They could bear a child as they wished. It was Manu who put the present restrictions on women." That was how Pandu persuaded his wife to use the mantra to call the three gods whose children became the first three pandavas (Yudishtira by Dharma, God of Justice; Bhima, by Vayu, God of wind; and Arjuna, by Indra; king of the Gods).
So, I guess we take Pandus word for it. It was Manu and his Manusmirthi (correct title?) that wrecked the wonderful position of women in vedic India.

Well, I dnt think so tht anywhere in religious book mention that God hate women. All the religious book says that God loves every humanbeing whether man or women.its human who categories human into various cast based on their individual thinking.do you think God hate creation of their own.everything he creates has purpose in this earth.very few can identify or reliase the purpose or aim of their life truely.
As im hindu and somewhere in religious book have 'expectation is the root cause of all the problem' not women as your discussion says and as in hindu certain god and godess is man and women respectively.
i read certain response of this discussion and they are very truely say tht certain religious book meaning is wrongly drived by human.anyway thanks for your nice discussion as then also we come to know the various thinking about human.

Just suppose this world is an Organization (Compay) and Men and Women are the Heads of two different departments with different responsibilities. Both Heads are working in their Departments according to their job Description. But they must need to perform their duty with co-ordination, When the head of a Department (Men/Women) need some co-operation by the Head of other Department(Men/Women), no one can refuse to co-operate with the other, because it is against the Objective of Organization.
Men and Women are 2 responsible person with equal rights and responsibilities, both genders should realize that no one can spend better social life without other.
Both should co-ordinate each other with respect.
Man has right to call his wife on bed but with respect, softly, with love ..... not to order the woman, Give her feeling of respect and honour. I m sure she can secrifice her life for her husband, she wants only respect and honour from man.
It is the basic right of woman. Respect, Honour and Love.

hi positiveminded. I think the best is "Anything a man wants to do with his wife, he shall do. It is like meat that has come from the slaughterhouse; wants to eat it salted, he eats it. Roasted--he eats it. Boiled--he eats it." (p. 491, # 165). ".
Wow, it sounds so sick. Luckily I don't find myself beeing like a ham for my boyfriend, and he doesn't even think about treating me that way;).
But other citations are also impressive. I don't belong to any religion. I think it is everything ok with me:). I love to help people and I don't feel like beeing "the root of all evil". It is even funny for me to hear that . And of course I don't believe it:). Nowadays women are treated the same as men in many countries. Luckily:).
I don't think that if god exsists he/she doesn't like women. But I don't know.
have a nice day, jazgottt.

Yeah, that particular quote struck me too. It made me feel as if men are cannibals out to cook women. Well they had better not for their own good.

God does not hate women, men hate women, and more and more businesses are run by men, though the landscape is changing and women are on top (no pun intended), try to work for a company that is run by women (though women hate women more). The essential issue of Middle aged women not being able to progress more is (from my opinion and experience of hiring them)
1. women are emotional and come with emotional baggage (my kids PTA at school, oh my kid is ill, my mother in law is coming over, I had a friend who had a problem).
Once you can assure your Boss, your supervisor that you can easily balance your personal and professional life, this will not only come from your words, but also your dedication and past records, your seniors will notice, and let you go up (promote)
2. The second major problem that i see with middle age women, now again, this is my personal opinion and is not based on industry standards is that there is a lot of Gossip. Gossip can leak essential critical information which the company does not want to give out, and this puts the supervisors in a bit of a position to make women go higher on in the corporate ladder.
The solution to this is to build confidence with your colleagues and your supervisors. If they tell you to keep something to yourself, make sure you guard it with your life, don't talk about it with your husband / friend / girl friend / child, as all these are potential information leaks.
If you take care of the above two points, I dont' think you will ever say God hates women. God does not hate anyone.

Who is dominant in church?
MAN!
Man rules because he things he rules.
Religion is corrupted from day one.
It has nothing to do with God.
I am very spiritual but not religious.
I know that bible is so much changed from original, that in most parts meaning get lost.
Same with other religions.
Every religion has its dark site including Christianity.
For my herbal remedies they would burn me alive in 1500 just because it was dark age ruled by Christian church.
In Islamic world they still do with woman what they want to do....

Religion has always been used to keep a certain group of people down. Men feel inferior to women and feel that they deserve respect. Not to mention during that time period, men were in control and women didn't have any power. Making sure the bible contained passages to keep women quiet made it easier for the men to keep their power.
Sadly some people still feel that women aren't great and powerful beings like men are and feel that they should be quiet and submissive. This is why feminism is important and it seems like some people feel like feminism is a dirty word.

a lot of religious writings were corrupted by sociedty and
specially the men, and we do not have the original uncorrupted'versions to read so we go by these old archaic
ideas about wicked women which is really just too
darned bad. we are not evil and we have not done any
wrong. lol.

good day. Maybe in the written book that's what it seems but in the real world I don't believe woman are hated. I mean they're the ones who bore children and it really gives them a kind of respect above man. In law specially in a ship (Birkenhead drill) WOMAN and children first right?, Jesus was conceived by the virgin Mary so I don't think either God or Man hated woman. just my opinion but I do practice what i said. Maybe the man are just scared to be outranked by woman.
