I need some advice. I have never been a coupon clipper. I have heard people say they can save a lot of money by using coupons.
My problem is I usually buy the store brand items. There are a few things I buy by brand name, Tide, Dawn, White Lily flour.
With gas shooting up and our grocery prices sky-rocketing right along with it. I have seriously been thinking that I may need to start doing the coupon thing.
Most coupons are for name brand items. If I use a coupon for Cambells soup and get 10 cent off the can, but I can buy the store brand for the same price without bothering with the coupons, why should I mess with coupons?
Is there more to this practice of coupon clipping that I am aware of?

Same here. I've given up on coupon clipping because the store brand is almost always cheaper. Plus, coupons expire so quickly these days. It seems if I don't use them right away, I end up with a bunch of expired coupons, and I have enough junk in my purse as it is! I agree about how high grocery prices are shooting up. I used to enjoy going out bright and early Saturday mornings by myself to shop, now I dread it, its just so stressful lately!

I dread it too jungletime, by the time I get to check-out line, I've broke-out into a cold sweat.
I've remarked to the cashier on more than one occasion that I don't take Valium, but I am seriously considering it when it comes time to check-out.

i have to agree with you. sometimes even though i have coupons, i dont use them because the store brand is much cheaper than the name brand even with the coupon - it just depends how many cents off i get - i have lucked out a few times and got the product for very close to nothing, in those situations, i will definitely buy the name brand!!

It probably wouldn't hurt me to put a little effort and time into checking out the coupon thing.
Getting a good deal on Tide would be great. My husband spent $20.00 on a jug of Tide the other day. A coupon would have been really nice to have.

You can save a good bit of money with coupons especially if you look at it over a time instead of a single trip. there are many coupons for the name brand items that you like. There are places on the internet where you can print just the coupons that you want to use.

No, you are doing it right. If you see that the storebrand is cheaper and you like it, go for it. If you prefer brandname and you can get it to storebrand price with a coupon, good. I use coupons, as I need them. But if the alternative is cheaper and my family will eat it, I go for the alternative. You can benefit the most by watching the sales and match the coupons accordingly. Some stores also offer double and triple coupon days (not here anymore though) which makes it an even better deal. Coupons can save you money but it requires some planning. With three kids in the house, I like those that give me free milk, lol.
