Internet connection

I want to make an internet connection between two computers such that The first computer is an internet gateway to the second computer.The problem is I do not have a router only a modem and internet cable.How do I do this without the need of a router as I have overspent buying the modem and installing the internet?

first off did your isp give you a fixed ip address? if so all you need to do is get a hub to connect the 2 computers.
if they didn't then that makes the process harder. Also you will need a dhcp server for the one computer that you want to be the gateway.
with that said it would probably be cheeper to buy the router. didn't your isp provide the dsl/cable modem for you?

true but there is more hardware that you will need. or another cable.
connect one computer to the dsl/cable modem
set up connection sharing (might need a second nic, and a cross over cable(cat5 cable)) also might be possible through a usb cable
