Does anyone know how a manufacturer measures the screen for TVs?

I have read that manufacturers use the vertical to measure screens. Is this correct?

According to my husband and he use to sell televisions, it's from corner to corner going vertical. But he hasn't sold them in a few years so it may have changed.

I heard it was diagonal and vertical. So maybe they use both. Thanks for responding.

Yep I was wrong/confused whichever, I called him and he said diagonal. I was thinking of a verticle angle. Sorry everyone.

Actually, for the measurements that you read in terms of the size of a television, it's a diagonal measurement. You would take a measurement from a bottom corner to the opposite top corner to get the size of your screen. I used to work in the TV department for a electronics store so we'd have to explain this to customers quite a bit.

I think your right diagonal measurements are used. I know that the actual size of the screen isn't the actual amount of the screen that is being used. Is this true also?
