Why are so many people flatly against psychiatric medications?

There are so many new medications out today to help people with mood disorders, mental illness, and neurological problems. Many newer medications are more effective with few harmful side effects. If psychiatric medications help people who need them, why is there still so much opposition and stigma associated with their use? Are you against anti-depressants and other mood disorder medications? What do you think about psychiatry in general?
