Why do people put lettuce and tomato on hamburgers?

I hate lettuce and tomatos! But, I think the lettuce is their to make the burger crisp. The tomato, maybe to add flavor? Anyways, I hate lettuce and tomatos.

I actually LOVE all the "trimmings" on a hamburger...melted cheese, lettuce, tomato..ah, but with the recent tomato thing and salmonella, nix the tomato..LOL. I just actually discovered a new way to have a hamburger...instead of putting ketchup, I put Mayo on it...my mother used to tell me about this since my father's family were from Calif (where I was born) and having mayo is a Calif hamburger..and it tastes great! I love salads BTW too!

I think it is a matter of taste. Everyone does things differently with burgers. Some put American or cheddar cheese. Others will use bleu cheese. People put onion on their burger, others put onion rings. Could be they use the lettuce and tomato as a serving of veggies. I don't know if that counts.

Personally I think they just taste really good on a burger. I also like mayonaise on my burger, as well as ketchup and even love onions, but I am a big fan of vegetables.

To give the sandwich more of a crisp cool flavor. The texture changes and makes the sandwich juicy. Plus it complements the taste.

I like salads , but for the most part i will take it of my sandwich . I suppose it has a crunch feel. I like it on mostly all kinds of salads best. I dont think i could eat a taco with out lettuce. I never liked nor use tomato.

I do love salads and I feel that the lettuce and tomatoes compliment the sandwich.

Well its all according what kind of mood Im in.LOL I usually eat hamburgers with cheese on it. And sometimes I have tomatoes and lettuce.

I don't like tomatoes on my sandwiches but I do like lettuce occasionally. You should try it some time as it does add a lot of taste to the sandwiches and helps to offset some of the grease from the burger.

Bd you are missing an awful lotof good nutrition by not liking salads. I have no idea why we always put lettuce and tomato on our burgers but I love the combination myself and enjoy the mix of flavors. I also love 'salads and the more veggies in them the better. I also like a slice of onion on my burger too.

good question. same here, why put those things on burgers. I always take them out. but i love to eat salad but not with a burger.

I love salad but Im not to keen on burgers? My lads eat salad in there burgers it makes it less boring. I like to make my own burgers I use lamb mince, pork mince,chicken,turkey, beef then I add all the spices Yummmm? (Not all together, seperate)

i guess it has something to do with a nutritional diet. since you're eating meat, it's better if you'll add some vegetables to balance your diet. ;)

I like salads. I don't like rabbit food on my burger though. Just hot fresh off the grill on a bun with some ketchup is all it takes for me.

I love lettuce and tomato on my hamburgers. I like the taste of my hamburger with those things added on there. I like to eat BLT's also, which is bacon, lettuce and tomato sanwiches. It just adds to the sandwich instead of just eating a few pieces of bacon on it. My daughter does not like anything on her sandwiches either, but she will not even try it to see if she likes it.

Just look at it like this the salad with the burger instead of having a burger and a salad. Just all in one that is all. But that doesn't mean that you have to eat it that way. Have a nice one.

i love salad and I sometimes put lettuce on my hamburgers or cheese burger.. It adds flavor? lol i don't know why i do it.. but i like it! I don't ever use tomato though... I hate tomates. I put reach on mine sometimes when i use lettuce then it really taste good.

That's why you don't put lettuce and tomato on your burger. Some people do like salad. I put ketchup, onion and relish on my hamburgers.

i do that. i think they aste etter with a lot of things added to it. i add pickles too. ;]
