I came by this while talking to a friend of mine. The scientists have discovered out a fabric that can generate power.this micro fabric is capable of generating its own electricity from our normal movements. The fibre has integrated nanogenerators that make it a simple and economical way to harvest energy from physical movements. But its in prototype stage which can still generate 80 milliwatts of energy per square metre of the fabric, which is enough to power an ipod or a cell phone.
Well one day you can stitch a shirt from this fabric and get enough power for your gadget charging.

Can you imagine the other commercial applications. Remember the self drying jacket from Back to the future II?
Perhaps luminescent seam lines for traffic controllers at night or even airport personel. Search and rescue. Wow, the list can go on and on.

Wow thats pretty good imagination. Its my turn then. Imagine a camp made of this fabric. There would be no need of a lamp and some other portable things. And what about curtains made of the fabric the will illuminate the room at the slightest breeze. What more ?? The list will go on and on to imagine more.
Thanks for responding buddy.

I always enjoy a good invention put too good use.
Carpeting would be interesting upon walking it lights up. Assists in walking to the bathroom at night, lol. Slippers too.

Still better use. You have got pretty good imagination skills buddy.
How about a jacket made of the fabric that keeps us warm using the current generated. I had heard of a concept jacket that had two fans integrated to it to keep the mine workers cool. They can use this fabric for this purpose and for lighting also.

Hi ankush.Thanks for responding.
As far i know the fabric was developed in the US. This type of fabric has is spun from micro nanowires. Gold-plated zinc oxide nanowires (yellow), each about 3.5 micrometers tall, are grown on a flexible polymer fiber. The gold-plated nanowires brush against untreated nanowires (green), which flex and generate current. Thats as much i could find out.

oh goo, if you get any more news about this development, kindly mail me or post in this discussion thread. okies.??
i like that article and i wanna possibly research into the science behind it. So it will be quite helpful, if i get the latest updates on the topic, courtesy of course you.

Ofcourse buddy. I'll surely update you if i comeby any more information regarding this technology. By the way, i don't have your mail id. So i guess i'd update over mylot. Its great you are studying the textiles tech. But, i had ever fancied doing a fashion tech. Some of my friends did that.

hi,
well that would be a amazing thing and a good invention indeed .... you know the travel chargers and all are so problematic and all... also you got to charge them when you go for an outing. so that will make the journeys more beautiful as you will be having lesser problems to deal with. also in the day to day life there will be lesser problems ..... then you wont be needing any electricity ..... may be somewhere in the later future.
hope that happens very soon.
ave a good day.

Ofcourse. thats what i wish too. Think about the prospect of generating enough current to use the common gadgets. And we wont need a torchlite to walk in the dark.
Thank you for responding.

a good invention is always appreciable. and especially the ones that do the work in the right direction.... that is to solve the major problem that the people are facing today- the power and energy crisis. some day we could recharge our gadgets when we are in long journeys. these kind of things must be developed fast and for funds must be provided for conducting research in these areas.
