I heard this from my brother while we were chatting, heres how it goes: You are in a room with three switches. There is another room next to where you are. In that room, there are three lamps. Each switch in the current room that you are at turns on a particular lamp in the other room, however, you cannot see which lamp gets lit whenever you try the switches. You are only allowed go one time to the other room where the three lamps are to determine which switch turns on which lamp. What will you do to figure it out?

Turn on 2 of the 3 switches. Leave them on for a while, maybe 5 to 10 minutes then turn off one of them. Go to the lamps. The one that is on is the one that the switch is still on. The one that is off but hot is the one which you turned on and then off later. The one that is off and still cold is the switch that you didn't touch. Understand?

I'm sure I've heard a similar one before... can't think of where it was that I heard it though. And I still had to take a moment to work through it in my head since the only thing that I remembered was the key point that lightbulbs get hot. I suppose that's the important thing to realise anyway.

I tried asking that to my friends as well and they really had a hard time thinking about it before inevitably asking for the right answer.
