Do you eat at the Dining Table at home? or somewhere else?

Dining table for dining - Dining table

Most of us here have at least one dining table at home and all of us have different dining habits. Some of us make it a habit to take our meals at the dining table with the other members of the family. Whereas, some of us can eat anywhere and everywhere ie. at the sofa, in the bedroom and etc. I have a dining table at home but I hardly take my meals there. I always take my meals at the coffee table (in front of television) in the living room. The reason is I can't eat quietly. I need to have some visuals in front of me when I eat. How about you? Do you always eat at the Dining Table? or do you eat at some other place? Why do you like eating at that place?

diningroom - my diningroom
Funnythat I am just now reading this discussion. I just posted a very simular discussion a week ago and I did get quite a few responses so I was quite happy about it. I hope that after I post this response, I see a lot of other responses to it. Yes I eat at the diningroom table, almost everyday for every meal. I like to concentrate and enjoy my food and I can't do that if I am doing something else at the same time, like watching TV or being on the computer. I also have a really nice dining room so I like to sit at the table because I like to enjoy it. Here is a picture of my diningroom.

Thanks, now you know why I always eat my meals in my diningroom. I am very comfortable in it so I make sure I use it.

I tend to eat food at the dining table, in the sitting room or in my bedroom. My first choice of place is the sitting room as it is comfortable and near the kitchen. If I cannot eat there and I have a full plate of food then I will eat at the dining table, but if I am just eating a sandwich or something I will take it upstairs and eat it in my room as there is also reasonably comfortable.

Yeah that is the main room of the house with the biggest TV in, but personally I watch TV mostly in my bedroom.

ha ha ha ha ha... sounds so familiar to me. We all like to watch TV while we eat. Regular meals are always in front of the TV. With the exception of guests or during festive season. That is why I try to position the dining table as close to the line of sight of the TV as possible. That way, we get to eat at the table, and still be able to watch TV. Other times, we would just get out a few stools and just sit on the sofa to consume our meal. As long as it is in front of the TV, we usually do not give much thought to where we are gonna be sitting for the meal. 8p

I would say so poohgal. After a long day at work, turning on the TV to watch something funny, or catch up with your favorite series is something one can look forward to at the end of the day to wind down. Sorts of take away some of the blues from work. Indulge in another world for a good half to one hour.

I too dun eat at my dining table ^_^ LOL =P I think it's just too inconvenient for ourwhole family to share a small dining table.. and also i guess it's a habit since young, because i dun wanna miss my show on tv, i will always prefer to eat later.. Whenever my mom sees that, she will take all the food, put it on a plate and bring it to me on the sofa.. LOL ^_^ Since then, i've always been eating on the sofa but never in my bedroom =P

Yea. I hate eating in my bedroom too as I do not like the smell of food in my room. My room should only have the baby powder smell. :)

I hardly eat at the dining table except when there's a reunion. I have the habit of eating in front of my desk. I prefer doing some work or surfing the web when eating.

Yea. I think most young people nowadays like to multi-task.
11 Jun 08
doing work while eating can help to save time (time wasted on dining table) and better digestion (rushing to finish the meal at the dining table)... and young people nowadays cant live without entertainment...(TVs, computers..etc) Eating at the dining table is bored as hell.... I think that's how we developed our multi-tasking skills..

I have a smaller table in my kitchen and there is so much stuff on it that I never use it for kitchen things. I have papers and things stacked on it so the counter is used, but not the table and I eat in front of the television all the time. I have the neatest little table that can be a table or a little seat........the top flips over. It is a table for me most of the time, but the grandkids like to flip the top and sit on it but usually just for short periods of time. Every once in a while I eat at the computer desk, but there isn't much room for a plate!

I have a dining table and I love it! it's huge and spacious and can seat 6 people comfortably. we also chose cushy dining seats so it's one of my favourite places to sit. hubby and i tend to eat in front of the telly as well, at our coffee table, but that means we have to sit on tiny chairs. Cos if we sit on the sofa there is no platform for the food to be placed. So lately, especially if there are many dishes, we use the dining table.

Cushy dining seats.. wow.. that's good. Most dining seats I've seen before are wooden and hard..

i do have a dining table at home. when my family are eating together, we'll make use of the dining table. if there's only me eating, i'll just eat somewhere. but most times i'll still eat at the dining table. i just need a book to keep me company while eating. i can't really eat in front of the tv coz i'll be too distracted to eat. lol

Sometimes not at the table but else where. The computer desk the counter that is like a table but in a chair next to it. the dinner table is not even being used to eat at. Sitting on the coach; sometimes in my room. It depends. Have a nice one.

Well sometimes, I eat at the kitchen table. Then I will eat in my living room too. I know that I don't allow my kids to eat in my front room. I hate to vaccuum any crumbs up..

Most nights we all sit at the dinner table and eat together. On movie nights we all pile up in the living room around the coffee table and eat together. No matter where we eat we try to be together. Dinner is one of those rare times you can get everyone settled together and have quality family time.

It's quite weird but I like to eat my dinner when I'm siting on my bed and I'm keeping my plate in hand, hehe. I don't remember when I last time put my plate on anything like a table.

The only time that we actually eat at the dining room table, is mainly for special occasions. I work at my table, honestly. My husband bought me a wireless mouse and keyboard for Christmas last year so I would not have to be stuck at my desk all of the time working. I can now sit at my table and work and put my feet up if I wish to. We usually sit on the couch and eat and watch television. We work seven days per week nights and we are so wore out. We just want to sit and eat and go to bed.

eating in a dining table or not eating in a dining table depends on the family or the person. in my family we always practice eating together in the dining table. it also enhances close family ties. during dinner time its the only time that me and my other siblings can meet up with our dad. aside from eating we would also talk about the events that happened to us that day because in the morning everybody will be too busy waking up and heading to work or school. there are times though that my family would have a 'tripping' where we would eat outside and b-b-q even though its evening. i miss those days. and sometimes when we couldnt have a get together i would eat in my room or in the living room or just wherever i want.

That's a very good habit. My family members and I come home at different times so it's very difficult to dine together. We only dine together during new years and birthdays.

We always eat at our dining table. I think that it is a good place to slow down from the day and bond with your children and spouse. We also don't allow the TV on during this time. This gives us some time to talk and relax with each other.

Actually it's good to leave the TV off during dinner time. I have been trying to do that but I failed.
