I use to give money to all kinds of charity but after reading up on some of them
I can see why most people don't. I have changed the way I donate. It goes directly to the source, not through some charity coordinator who takes most of the money and leaves nothing for the program they are saying they support. When you do find out how little the charity of your choice actually gets from any donation you may be surprised. Just how many thousands of dollars will it take for them to get just 1 cent
when it says 1/100 of 1/2% of every 1/8 of a cent from each dollar goes to the charity.
First they pay the coordinator $200,000 per year. What for, a once a year event?
Then there is a claim for overhead. What overhead? They are using government funded offices. And all supplies are funded by the government and/or donated by big companies who receive no money from them. I just found that most are a scam. If you want to get rich just start up a charity and keep most of the money for yourself. That's what theses other charities do. You may have to give 1/100 of 1/2% of every 1/8 of a cent to your charity but you can legally keep the rest and it's tax free....That way you can pay yourself $200,000 or more a year and a $100,000 or more bonus for having a 1 year event. Plus you can get your car for free...or get your lease on a car paid through this charity. I think it even cover your insurance, don't know about the gas, yet!
Back to my question...do you make cash donations to a charity and do you know how much they actually get from your donations?

That is really rather shocking to hear and I did not know that the people running charities actually got money out of it, I thought they did it because they cared. I don't give money to charities though, because I am one of those selfish people that belief that charity starts at home, as I have University coming up to fund then I do not have spare money for other causes.

Wow. You have really opened my eyes. I had no idea! I just can't help it. Every single time I go to town, someone is collecting cash for something. I have to make sure I have dollar bills before I leave the house because I feel guilty if I don't donate a buck.

I send a check 2 times a year to my favorite charity.
This way I know where and who is getting the money.
Then I donate some of what I earn at squidoo to
the American Vetrans.
Next time read the fine print on these "charity" donations
jars, boxes, cans or whatever. They have to have it posted
but sometimes you may need a magnifying glass to read them.
When people see those little gum machines they actually
think that this money goes to the charity that is displayed
on that machine, when if they would check only very little,
if any, will get to them. They all work the same. It may be
"feed the children","save the children" "cancer", or any that
is on the news.
And I tell those people who stick their donation cans out in
front of me that I have already made my charity donations.
