Do you shop at Goodwill?

I love the Goodwill store here. It's huge and I can usually find brand new clothes - with tags still on them for my children. They grow so fast and I can find cute play clothes and even nice dressy clothes for cheap. I also like thrift stores. Do you ever shop Goodwill or thrift stores or do have to have evrything retail?

I do shop at Goodwill, but since i'm an electronics and technology person, I usually look for such items there, such as low-cost fans, useful CDs, batteries, etc. But that's not the only place I shop at for such things. I also shop the Haven of Rest Thrift Store, and even the Salvation Army to purchase such things for less than $10 dollars. I can't help it. I just love to buy technology and electronics that completely works at a low price.

And it's really cool when you can find those things that give you a little thrill. I haven't been to the salvation army yet. It's about forty minutes from here but I would really like to see what they have.

I quite enjoy shopping at goodwill stores but rarely find things in my size. If I'm looking for something specific like a jacket but more often zI'll just buy something that I like that catches my eye. Our thrift stores have household items and furnitue as well so I usually go in to look for collectible items.

It's amazing what collectibles you can find in thrift stores. I honestly think that some people did not know what they were giving away sometimes. I bought a green carnival glass bowl in a thrift shop once. That's why I like these stores so much. It's like a treasure hunt.

I love shopping at Goodwill stores for the various vintage items they always have. I know that I often donate my clothes to Goodwill, not because they're old, but because they simply don't fit anymore, so I know that not all Goodwill items are just old and useless. Plus, on a college student's budget, retail items are not always the easiest way to go, so it's great to find a few cheap shirts or pants occasionally.

It does help with the clothing budget. We have a Goodwill superstore here so I have to take my time to find the things that my kids will "be seen" in, but most times I don't tell them where I bought this or that outfit and they love them. I donate our out grown clothes too if they are still in nice shape. I just really like thrift stores.

I love secondhand that is what has clothed my kiddos their whole lives. We have goodwill and salvation army but they are dirty I haven't ben to impressed with the selection either. But the thrift stores and consignment shops are more impressive. The consignment shops cost more but for what you get is better. I love buying kitchen gadgets at them and kids clothing. Furniture has been good as well. Shoes is my problem with my son he has gigantic feet wide and grows so fast now that we are having a hard time finding anything except brand new. And then he grows out of those in a matter of a couple of months.

I guess I have been fortunate. I have been in some thrift stores that smelled bad and had poor selections but the Goodwill here is clean and the clothes are nice, not stained and full of holes. I love consignment stores too. I usually don't buy shoes for the kids in thrift stores. I don't want to damage their feet with shoes that have conformed to another person's foot...and I'm always worried about athletes foot. But jeans, shirts, dresses, jammies...I look at the thrift stores first. It helps with the clothing budget in a big way! Especially when kids grow so fast!

I've never been into brand name clothing and I love the money I save by shopping at thrift stores! Whenever I want to go shopping, I head to a few of them happily because I know I'm not going to spend a ton of money. I also love that no one else has the stuff I have!

That's a really good point, Rosebud. People have asked my son where he gets his jeans because they want to go buy some too. I don't tell him where I get them. You know how teenagers are with name brands but I find those name brands at Goodwill and other thrift shops! It's nice to be able to buy nice clothes without having to pay for the label.

most of my clothes come from charity shops, you can get some really nice stuff that's hardly been worn for great prices. The only thing I always buy new is underwear as you can get it cheaply anyway and the thought of wearing someone else's is not nice. I've also bought lots of kitchen equipment like pans and pyrex stuff in charity shops, still good to use and much cheaper than new stuff.

I shop Goodwill! In fact, I buy more at Goodwill and other second hand stores then retail. WE even buy our books used! Our Goodwill has a lot of clothes that are really nice. They have a fairly large population making a lot of money here and that means there are a lot of fantastic throw outs found at Goodwill and the other second hand stores. I love it. I also find children's clothes and toys at garage sales...Yay for great deals.

Good question. I travel alot in my job and stay some places for months at a time. I'll usually get cheap, but clean motel for a few months. My company pays for nicer places. The first thing I do is find the nearest Goodwill,Salvation Army,or secondhand store. I'll get things for my room, like toaster, cofee maker, shelves to stock my food,Ive even bought a desk and chair for my office. It's funny when I tell the motel staff to remove half the stuff they have in the room! LOL! tdemex

I shop at Salvation Army and a local thrift store run by a charity. I don't mind buying second hand clothes. If my fiancee and I have children after we're married I think buying from these stores would be the best idea. Unfortunately, he doesn't buy anything used. I hope we can come to some kind of compromise.

Your' husband may not budge. Mine wants everything new for himself but I put my foot down with the rest of us. (Myself and our three kids) I have found brand new 80.00 jeans for my son for 7.00. They still had tags on them and his friends ask him where he got them so they can get some. I think if you are careful and picky, you can find some really great stuff. Since kids grow so fast, I hate paying retail unless I have to.

I love the good will , its like treasure hunting. My kids are 13, 7, and 8. They still grow quickly. By the next year of that season those clothes and shoes no longer fit. So we do good will for them. as for me. My style is very eclectic, and I can only find what I like at good will most times.

I shop at our local Goodwill store quite often. It is just like a treasure hunt each time I go and it is so exciting to find a great bargain. Unless it is a designer name item I try to only buy items that are 50% off that week because I think Goodwill is a little overpriced on some things since everything they have has been donated to them. We have a local thrift store that sells all of their clothes for $1 a piece even if it is new with tags on it. I love to shop there and if I donate items it is to them. I try to buy most of my children's clothes from either Goodwill or the thrift stores too. My oldest is a stain magnet and I hate to pay a ton of money for clothes and she wear it one time and get it ruined or stained up. Money is too hard to come buy these days so thrift shopping is just one of the ways I try to cut back on spending.
