I think Jane Austen was a brilliant writer and proof of it are all her wonderful masterpieces especially Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility. I can't help thinking though, that Northanger Abbey is different and almost a horrible read. It is Isabella's character that I despise the most. She is a hypocrite and you just can't stand the way she talks and her role in the book. Her speeches are unbearable and meke the reader not only despise her but the main character as well. Did anyone feel this way about Isabella too? Did you like Northanger Abbey at all? Why do you suppose Jane Austen would wirte something like this, so different from our other most beloved stories??? I agree that the ending is actually nice, but I can't help disliking this novel.

Hi tikaldema, welcome to mylot and have a happy stay here. Jane Austin is a wonderful writer and a good writer can not stay with the same kind of stories all the time. She can't write only about good girls and nice boys because in real life we have this kind of person that is hypocrite and false. Perhaps Jane knew a person like Isabella and put it in her book. It is what many authors did and do. You can not look only for the characters but to the style of the writer. And if you hate this way Isabella is because Jane Austen was a great writer that can create a character that inspire real feelings, right? Keep posting, I like your post because it give us the opportunity to have a real discussion with differents opinions.
Have a nice day.

Hi teca44, thank for your good wishes. Yes, your opinion is exactly was I thought about the character myself. She probably a person and made a character out of her. Only a wonderful autor like Austen could depict a character so vividly. Thanks for your comment.
