I was reading that most people don't try because they are scared to fail, but some that do go out and try something are just as scared of successes. I thought that it was a very interesting concept and find a lot of truth in such a simple statement. What are you thoughts on this topic?

I'm afraid of failing, but then failing is something where you can get the heck back up and try it again if you need to. I am trying to remember that when one fails, it's just one time to get up and succeed again, so for me, I tend to look at it in that aspect.

Both concepts can be argued. I know there has been times in my life when I was scared of my own shadow. Due to the things that were said about me and to me by people - some family and some friends I felt that I ws a failure. When I was in High school my self esteem was so low that it took two teachers who cared about me to talk sense into me and let me know that I was an intelligent child. When I began working at the ministry I know there were things that I did good and others I did well and some things that I could never get the hang of. My supervisor assisted me in all areas and I am so confident now that even in class when the group the people who do not talk in class together to do assignments I feel comfortable because I know my ability and am assured of the others ability as well.
I think it all boils down to the type of information that is and was being fed to the person. I fsomeone keeps telling you that you are worthless - you will begin to actually behave worthless and be worthless whereas others will just prove you wrong for the pleasure of it.
People are afraid not of failures but of being thought of as a failure and that hurts. With this thought in mind they will do things expecting to fail even though they may have the necessary equipment for success. On the other hand a person is afraid of success possibly because they are unsure of what they want and where they are going. A person who knows where they are heading for is neither afraid of success nor failure. It is all in the mindset. I know I rambled for a while but thanks for the oppportunity.

I was more afraid of faillure I think.I always wanted to do something, but I figured what if I didn't pass, what if I failed it,then I just scared myself away.
But that's just not right. If you don't even try as you're afraid of failure, then you never gonna make it,cause you don't even has the courage to give it a try.
Actually things not always as difficult as we think so,so why not give it a try?Even if you fail, you can still be proud to say I gave it a try,I did my best shot, right?
I believe, nothing is impossible to a willing mind.

To be honest it's little too scary for me to try because I kept thinking "Will it work?" or "It won't work at all" that both leads to failure. Many people have recommended me to try it first because I will never know what would be the outcome. Then if I failed for the first time, I will learn something beneficial from there and will finally know how it works. They said if I fail, then I will not fail for the second time or so on because I will learn more from mistakes. Yes I agree with them that failure is one of the reason to become success. I am trying to implement it and to think positive. If I never try then I will never know.

I am more afraid of failure but I always try for success. I try way to hard to fail. I do fail but I always pick up the pieces and keep on trying. I am not afraid to succeed. i welcome it in my life. I am working seven days per week to try to get some success in my life. I hope to be able to sit back and enjoy life later on down the road from my hard work.

In my industry, showbusiness (in my case, dance), I think a lot of artists tend to be equally afraid of success and of failure but for different reasons, and I am no exception. My reasons for being fearful of failure are quite obvious. Nobody wants to fail. Nobody wants to experience that feeling of worthlessness that failure brings about, and nobody wants everyone who may have seen are heard about their so-called "failure" to think of the on those terms. On the flip side, this is a profession notorious for forcing those who pursue it to sacrifice their privacy in order to have success. You risk being recognized by others when you go out in public, strangers wanting to know about you, and then there's the media which tends to be very harsh. Many professionals in the business (as well as any audiences you develop) may want to typecast you if you're successful in a certain role and won't rightfully support you in other aspects of your profession. Luckily dance isn't anywhere near as bad as, say, professional athletes in certain sports and Hollywood actors. However, it is still something I worry about even though quite likely nothing big will happen. That is where I think the fear of success comes from for some people - the fear that having success will force you to give up certain elements of your personal life. Achieving such a balance is very difficult and something may successful people struggle with.

I guess most people would be scared of failure more than success, because that's the way our human nature is. People see success as the top, while failure is the bottom. But what people don't see is that failure is actually a stepping stone to success. To be really honest, I was really scared of failure in the past. That was until I met my big failure a few years back and I thought my whole world came tumbling down. But as I started to pick myself up from that failure, I realized that I have become stronger as a person emotionally and mentally. I had another failure again after that, but this time it didn't hit me that hard, because I knew how to deal with it already. On the other hand, success is actually something to fear too, because once you reach the top, you tend to be too comfortable with yourself, and you might not be improving yourself in any way. As humans, we should always strive to improve ourselves.

well good for you gerald, that is great to hear that you have learned some really important life lesson. that failure is not what most people think it is. which is something is wrong with me. failure is more of a stepping stone to be who you are meant to be. you are already successful, not you have to act as if it is so

Hi 34momma, Years ago I was told by someone that I was frightened of success not failure, they said I succeeded then retreated and it is in fact very true. I didn't want the limelight for some reason and always preferred working behind the scenes. A close friend of mine in one of his books a Trick of The Light by Charles Antony (sorry giving him a plug here) wrote The Ghost Train which was about life and peoples fears and he spoke of success being something that many were afraid of also. I'm afraid of failure really, but I am indeed ready to confront it.I always try to succeed on certain things and I always keep on trying if ever I fail coz I know that in every success there will always be a failure. You can't thoroughly succeed without failing.Failures help you succeed coz you always learn from it.
