Well, instead of driving to your work or a city alone (or with one passenger), you can stop at a nearby bustop and see if anyone wants to go to a location near yours. Giving them a ride saves your nation's supply of fuel. This is called carpooling.. If you ride a two-wheeler... you can always give your neighbors, friends and people you know well, a ride. Fossil fuels are not like sunlight, they get exhausted. SO it's better to carpool than to drive to office alone.

There's a BIG difference between carpooling and hitchhiking. If I were you, I wouldn't offer any stranger a lift these days. It doesn't matter how someone looks- they can be wearing a business suit and showing you pictures of their kids right before they rob you. I don't carpool because I don't live near anyone that I go to school or work with. Several of my father's co-workers all live near each other, so they carpool. It's not a bad idea, but it's just not practical for me.

The people in my locality are not absolute strangers to me. I have seen them occationally, but not met them personally...

No. I wish there would be someone from my work I could carpool with but it just does not work out that way. We are all not on the same shift and there is only about 15 of us.

Even when I lived up north in a more populated area I didn't carpool because there was no one that I knew going to the same place I was going. I also run errands on the way home from work and that wouldn't go over too well if I were part of a car pool. Now that I live in the country carpooling is impossible even though my son-in-law lives right next door to me and works for the same company. The problem is that he works different hours than I do.

I would carpool if I could but I live in a rural area and there is no one that I know going to the same place I go in the mornings. With the price of gas continuing to go up, I think it's a good idea though.

I do carpool with my friends when I have to go to the college as my college at quiet a distant place. It saves our money and also an a way to conserve energy. We should all try to practice it.
