My cherries are late to ripen this year.

It is June 10 and they are not yet ripe. There have been years when we have picked these cherries the second week in May. Winter hung on a long time this year. But there are lots of them. Last year a late freeze killed the blooms. How are your fruit trees going? Will you have fruit this year?

Mmmmm, cherries. I cannot grow any kind of fruit-bearing tree indoors and we do not have a lawn, but I was thinking of trying some Cape Gooseberries in my hydroponic indoor planter. I have been eating all of the tender young leaves off the okra plant, just recently having learned that they are edible. Quite delicious, actually, especially wrapped around flavored cheese.

OOOh, sounds interesting. I like flavored cheeses. Aldi's has had some good ones inexpensively.

It is great how Mother Nature compensates.

man Gerty I love fresh cherries. Last year the late frost killed everything nearly here. I don't have enough yard now to plant to much but I would love a cherry tree in the back.

I have a large property. I find the cherries pretty easy care. I have two different trees in the front.

Our peach tree is growing nicely. Right now the peaches are about the size of a little rubber bouncy ball, so they have a ways to go. There are a lot of them out there though. I have not checked the apple tree lately. I know it had a ton of white buds about a month ago.

I have a volunteer peach tree (squirrel planted?) and it is small but has some fruit coming on. I love peaches.

Our earliest cherry tree normally bears ripe fruit in April, but this year was about three weeks late. Then we had a period of heavy rain which conincided with the ripening of the fruit on the other cherry trees, with the result that most of the fruit split and spoilt. The insects and birds feasted on it, but most of the cherries where too far gone to be much use to us.
I hae one tree which is bearing fruit at the moment & I have a box picked yesterday in front of me as I speak. they're gorgeous, actually the best cherries I've ever tasted from that particular tree. There's not enough to preserve or make jam, so I guess I'll just eat them all :-)

That is what I usually do, eat them all. Would like to freeze them or dry them. Eat them year round.

Since I wrote my first response, the rest of our trees have come to fruit. They aren't quite as good, but still delicious and I'm feeling quite cherried out! My neighbours have just offered me the crop from their trees too, so I may make some jam if I get time. I adore cherry jam, even though removing all the stones is a pain.

I have never tried to grow grapefruit or blueberries. I know the grapefruit would not make it in Kansas, not sure about blueberries.
