Is it just me or do you do this too?

At night I am sitting down watching either one of the shows I like to watch or a DVD and I can feel the eyes getting very heavy. I try so hard to keep my eyes open but it is almost impossible! And then it happens, I wake up at THE END of the show and have most times missed the plot of the story. This is so annoying and even with prompts from hubby (and he knows not to go too far) I find it quite a challenge. Am I the only one this happens to......please tell me I'm not....someone.....anyone!

That happens to many people, especially if you're tired or if you've not done anything all day and feel azy. lol. I feel my eyes getting tired when i watch moves late at night.. and all i do is sit in front of the computer all day (this is on holidays... i'm not that lazy on working days). I guess too much colour stuff on TV (especially if its dark and you have switched off the lights for better effects) makes the eyes tired. It has happened to me a few times, and i feel bad if the movie was a good one...

Maybe the dim lights are the problem or part of it, but like you if the Movie was a good one it is annoying to have missed the best parts and wake up when it is all over.

I am not so bad on the internet as the chair is not as comfy. He has suggested taping the show for me but there would be so many!

I see! Mine downloads a ton of shows and watches them on the computer! Have you heard of hulu.com? You can watch television shows on hulu and it is free! You do not have to download either!

My husband does this everyday, sometimes two or three times a day. There is just something about TV that puts him to sleep. You are definitely not alone. My ex husband and my father also did this.

It happens to me around 11 p.m or so watching nick at nite and Fresh Prince comes on and I can start to feel my eyes slowly close and before I know it I have crashed on the couch. I love Nick at nite they have really good shows on now and its good for a laugh. I will eventually wake up off of the couch and go to bed but I like to be out where my hubby is for as long as I can be.

If I ever get a chance to sit down and watch some t.v. I am asleep before I know it. Then, I will do the same as you...wake up near the end of a movie. Then I have to quickly turn it off because I cannot stand seeing the ending before seeing how it got there. My brother all growing up and still to this day would always fall asleep before the opening credits were finished, I had always teased him about that (he also fell asleep at the dinner table every night, but that is another story) anyway in high school he was the manager of a video store, the only way he could watch a movie was at work on the tvs there so that he would be able to recommend movies.

It use to happened for most of the people, those who watch the Television Shows and working in the Computer for a long times, especially in the night times. Because in this time the brightness straight away will reach you eyes with out any distrubances, Your eye have some capacity to receiving.. but the power which you receive from the TV and the computer in the dark (like the night time) is more than the normal.. Your eye will not have a capacity to received that much of attractions.. So, it gets tired.. So, you can switch on some of the small lights and watch the Televisions and work on your computers this is the best way you can avoid this type of problem.. And even at this situations, you have to gets up from the place and walk for a minute and give relax for your eyes, which will be prvent from some of the future problems..

Some very good advise there chennai and the part where getting up and moving around does tend to wake up the eyes a little and even having a brighter light on may help.

Funny how we seem to wake up at the end when the list of people in what ever we are watching comes up but I have been known to wake up and something else has started and that is really confusing! LOL Your right, if it is a DVD we can watch it again, but not the TV programme....unless we are wide awake enough to tape it! LOL

Haha! You're not the only one. When my partner suggests we watch a movie at night, I almost always don't finish the movie. I will end up going to bed in the middle of the movie and watch it again the next day. During the Worldcup 2004, I was in Thailand and I waited for the final match. Alas it was going to be at 1AM. Anyway, I did stay up until 1 AM and watched the match start. However, a few minutes later I dozed off and when I woke up the match was finished.

Don't you just love it Jemina when you have all good intentions to watch something and the time of waking up is usually right at the end! At least you got to watch the start!

Glad to see it does not happen to you anymore mummymo as the part about it is when it is time to go to bed I feel like I have had my quota of sleep and become awake. Very frustrating but something I can live with (or have to!)

When that happens you know that it's time to go to bed and you have to try and watch the dvd on another day. But if it's a show on tv then the only thing you can do is hope that the show comes on another day and you can get a chance to see it again. So no our not the only one that it happens too. Have a nice one.

It probably is time to go to bed but as this can happen early in the night, going to bed too early I will wake early hours of the morning. But good to know I am not alone on this one. You have a nice one too.

It's nice to know that I am not the only one that does that. I fall asleep during movies or television shows all the time. I don't for the life of me know why though. I didn't do this before. my hubby gets pretty irritated as well. I just can't help it though.

Hey that's the story of my life! Strugling to stay awake xaxa as I talk now I have only selpt for 4 hours and the same goes for yesterday and the day before yesterday :P I am waiting for the weekend to get some sleep. I am quite used to it now I am a night type so I can't sleep early but I have to get up early to go to school so I never get enouph sleep :P My worst time is at arround 12 o'clock in the noon when I have to really fight to stay awake in the class and again at 10-11 at night were I loose parts of the moovie I watch because I fall asleep and wake up all the time but then when it is 12 o'clock no matter how tired I was before I feel perfectly fine and can't go to bed until past 3 o'clock :P At summer when I don't have to go to school I sleep from 5 in the morning till 2 at noon :D (as you understand 7 hours of sleep are more than fine for me after a whole year of 3-5 hours of sleep per day)

You sound like you have a mixture of sleeping patterns gameswonderer but have it under control. (or most of it!) Having that little nap can either work good or bad as in not being able to sleep when finally going to bed. I cannot go to bed early as will wake around 2ish. and find it hard to get back to sleep, even though I am tired.

yes i do the same thing i will go to sit for a movie like last night and was knocked out and i woke up when my fiance came in and said so you didnt watch the movie as ususal lol

Your not alone with this. I It seems like this happens to me every night. I'm setting there after getting very comfortable getting very involved in the show and thing I'll rest my eyes for a moment and suddenly the show is over. Darn it's one I really wanted to see too. I have to stop resting my eyes for a moment or get up and dance.

Unfortunately you are not the only one that this happens to. I have even done this after waiting all week for a certain movie. This worse for me, because I am a murder movie buff, so you can imagine my heartbreak, in trying to stay woke to find out who is the killer, (this only happen with movies that I haven't already correctly guessed), to wake up and it's all over with. I have sometimes even called around to family and friends to see it they knew to no avail. The only suggestion if have, is if you can take a nap first, or when you already well-rested (smile).

(raising hand) - Guilty! I don't watch TV at night much for that very reason. I like to be comfortable, but comfort = eyes closed before long. At least with a DVD you can watch it again, and easily skip the part that you've already seen.

It happens to me sometimes too, especially if the movie didn't turn out like I thought it was going to be, you know boring..lol. That also happens when I'm just trying to watch tv, it happened last night, I just couldn't keep my eyes open, and my hubby knows not to say too much either, cause I can get snappy, especially if I'm sleepy..lol

Yeah that happens to me. We really should just turn the DVD of or record the rest of the show rather than watching it half asleep, yet we all think (or I think) that oh there is not long left, I will stay awake and I don't. I nap through it. Short 5 minutes nap every few minutes and completely loose the plot of what is happening.
