Restaurant Leftovers - Do you doggy bag it?

When you don't finish your meal at a restaurant, do you always ask for a doggy bag (ask for it to be packed up so you can take it home to eat at a later time)? Or do you just tell the waiter not to bother and let them dispose of the food? I always doggy bag my leftovers! The only exception is if the food didn't taste too good. But otherwise, I'm paying for good food and I'm taking it home with me. That's one less meal I have to cook. :) What do you do?

I have noticed that! Especially in the United States. No office to the US, but the portion sizes there are double, if not triple, the suggested portion sizes. But it's good value if you don't finish the meal and take home the leftovers for an extra meal or two.

in a life like this where everyday the prices are raising up and up i wont mind to packed up and take home the food we cant finish. i am not ashame to do that. i have four children and i am a single mom i cant afford to just waste food that i paid for. but if it is a party of course i dont, but if i paid for it then i am going to bring it home.

I agree, there should be no shame in taking home food you've already paid for! Thanks for your reply, roniroxas!

Hi cecilia - I completely agree with you. The food's already been paid for so, for the most part, you might as well take it home!

For me, it depends on how much is left and how good the food was. If there's only a bit of something left or only a side, I usually don't worry about it. If the food wasn't to my taste and my SO didn't like it, I don't have it bagged, either. My dog doesn't get people food, so she just has to miss out.

Hi fluffnflowers - I know what you mean about taste. If the food tasted bad, you won't want to be taking it home and then eating it again! Heh. Thanks for your input!

I hate to waste food so I always take it home. Some restaurants give you so much that I can make two meals out of one. A penny saved is a penny earned.

Hi slyvixen - I'm not a big food waster either. That's how my parents brought me up. Now, I feel so guilty if I don't finish every morsel on the plate. Thanks for replying!

That's funny that your dog might be eating better than you. I know some owners whose dogs are treated like royalty - like they are served steak and have their steak cut up for them. It's funny!
