This was a favorite song of my sister's when she was three and four years old. The lyrics of the chorus went, I hide him in my pocket 'cause he's very very small. Germs, Germs, my invisible dog. Of course we have her on tape singing Germs, Germs my invisible doggie(with emphasis on the last word). Does anyone remember that song? What were some songs you sang as a child? I never heard him growing up, but I hear that Raffy is a popular person to play to children.

Goodness no, I've never heard of that song...but one song I remember from my childhood was a song my great-grandmother always sang to me as a kid.
My Bonnie lies over the ocean
My Bonnie lies over the sea
My Bonnie lies over the ocean
O, bring back my Bonnie to me.
Bring back, bring back, bring back my Bonnie to me, to me
Bring back, bring back, bring back my Bonnie to me, to me

Haven't got a clue what it really means...LOL...since my great-grandmother was Irish must be an Irish song, since "Bonnie" is usually an Irish name

Hi Spookybutt,
I remember the kiddies all used to sing "Ring around the Rosy" in the playground, which ended with the line "A'Tissue! A'Tissue! We all fall down!" whereupon the little darlings would all fall giggling onto the ground, not suspecting for a moment that the song parodied the Bubonic Plague in Middle-Age Europe.
Then there was the other one where one child was Mr. Wolf, who would walk aimlessly around the playground while all the other kiddies would tiptoe behind him or her and sing in time "What's the time, Mr. Wolf?", to which Mr. Wolf would answer "One O'Clock!" or whatever time Mr. Wolf thought it might be just at that moment. And this continued on in the same way, over and over, until Mr. Wolf finally answered "Dinnertime!" and turned to chase down and catch the slowest of his prey. And a wow of a time was had by all.
The there's the song we all know and love - "Three Blind Mice", where three handicapped mice are relentlessly persecuted and butchered by a psychotic maniac who even Freddie Kruger would be proud of.
Seems childhood was a metaphorically barbaric and brutal time, though the kiddies probably didn't realize it.
