I think the answer depends on one's age and level of dependency on the father. When I was a kid and dependent, I would have run away for fear of being caned for immorality and possible truncation of my education. By the time I was on my own but still under 20, I had considered myself independent such that such an encounter would not have spelt any doom or embarrassment for me. That was me as a boy. Most female children would not be that free to do it in the presence of either of the parents. Male children enjoy better freedom, and get away with many things their female counterparts would have been rebuked or spanked for.
