Getting Free Music for Ipod

Which is better, using torrent downloads (which I've never done but have seen a friend do and was told a little bit about) or just download limewire and transfer to itunes?

NEVER use a program like limewire. The risk of virus or worse is huge. Torrents are pretty good, but the best is newsgroups. If you know someone with a good understand about IT, ask them about newsgroups, I'm sure they'll know what you are talking about ;)

I don't know where to go for that information, I just got a new ipod, and before I download anything to it, I need to find a program that will be safest for finding my music... do you have any links?
