If you can't sleep, don't lay there and force it. If you do, your mind stops associating your bed with sleeping, but rather, waiting for sleep.
Find something to do, whether it is watching TV, doing crunches, tackling a project. When you are worn out, go back to your bed. If you do not fall asleep, get back up and keep working on something.
If you can train your mind and body to associate the bed with sleep, you can try setting up a sleeping schedule from there.

Well even though when I heard this solution I thought it was the stupidest thing I ever heard, but someone told me to increase my sodium intake after not sleeping well for months. It was the last thing I tried and it actually worked. I can't remember sleeping so well.

Im prone to UTI and I try to limit foods that may trigger it ...thank you very much for the advice though. Im sure other people who have insomnia who happened to read this topic would love to try it.

I think you asked this question one other time. I would still suggest melatonin and Valerian they work great for me.
Diphenydramine which you can find in products like simply sleep from Target works really well. You could also try chamoimile or sleepytime tea from celetial seasons.

when i had an insomnia before, i just read books. if it doesn't help you, do something that you don't want to do until you get tired. if it still doesn't help. try using some medications. i used melatonin before & it helped me find my way to sleep within 30 minutes of doing nothing. ;)

I love reading ... If I opened a novel I just have to finish the story. It doesn't help my insomnia though but i get to enjoy my night.
hhmm.. I haven't tried reading a newspaper to sleep yet...nah!..might give me nightmares. Thanks for the advice.

I tried reading and watching movies but I just got engrossed with the story I don't get to sleep at all. I even tried subtitled TV series once to no avail .
I do feel tired but I don't feel sleepy at all.
I haven't tried exercising yet.
thanks for the advice.
