Have You Heard The One Of The Pig Afraid To Walk On Mud?

I nearly died laughing at this when I heard of it last night on the news. It seems a pig named Cinders has mysophobia, that is a fear if dirt to the point she was refusing to walk on dirt, and forget about her rolling around dirt or mud the way most pigs do. Cinders came from a litter of six siblings and none of them had this same fear. Cinder's owners, Debbie and Andrew Keeble couldn't figure out what to do, until they remembered that they had these little miniature booties that they had used as pen and pencil holders..The couple then put the little booties on Cinders, and now she up and running and walking on the dirt. The couple, formerly did raise pigs for the sausage industry but now keep the pigs as pets...so there's no fear of Cinders winding up on someone's dinner plate. The couple still have to figure out what to do about getting larger boots once Cinders grows up more. You can see the entire story and more pictures of Cinders here http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1025428/Pig-Boots-The-worlds-porker-afraid-mud.html Have you ever been aware that an animal could have a "phobia" about something?? Do any of your pets have any kind of phobias??

my calico has a fear of black things on the floor. she does this step dance around it,and that tapping paw to see if it moves. i'm beginning to wonder if she has a depth problem or something, and thinks it's a hole? something about her vision seems off..

My one cat Kissy is absolutely terrified of rainstorms...as soon as she hears the slightest pitter patter of rain she darts under my bed and won't come out until it's over

It is very funny. One of my dogs will never walk over the water or mud, the other can run over water and mud with pleasure. Pigs cool down their bodies in mud, because they don't sweat. The mud also protects a pig from insect bites and from sunburn... What about the one pig? maybe she is the one that needs to be kept as pet... And she is already famous, isn't she?

Yes, I wonder how Cinders survives without rolling in the mud too, unless her owners clean her off? Yes, I imagine she's going to be a very famous pig...lol

I have labs that absolutely hate the water, you see all of those pictures with labs swimming...forget it, not ours. They walk around puddles, they hate when it rains and what a job getting them into the tub on bath day. We have tried babies swimming pools to help them stay cool in the summer and forget it..they won't go near them. The older one also does not retrieve

Aww--that's funny in a way...sure your dogs are really dogs and not cats? I never heard dogs not liking water or getting wet...cats yes, dogs no.

lol. No I didn't know they could have phobias, but I guess it makes some sort of weird sense. One of my cats doesn't like people she doesn't know and all cats I think abhor the vacuum cleaner. But other than that my cats are fearless or somewhat fearless.

The only time we had a thunder storm here in southern callie, my cats came up to me "like mom make it stop." It was sort of funny in a heartbreaking way.

We had very bad storms tonight...had to shut down my computer for hours...so got to doing other things...but my Kissy was miserable with the thunder booms...instead of darting under my bed she stayed in the kitchen and would be meowing at me....like she was asking me to have it stop too

My Kissy is a timid thing too. If people come to visit me she darts under my bed...same thing with rainstorms..she's terrified of them and will also hide under my bed.

hello pye, thanks so much for the new information, something i am grateful about mylot is learning and my vocabulary is getting better LOL it sure is a very cute pig and i love the looks of those boots Cinder's looks very happy with those pairs haha. i love pigs too but unfortunately we cannot have it at home or our neighbors will gonna be complaining. pigs are considered one of the smart pets so i kinda hoping i can get one someday, who knows. the owners of Cinder are very kind and considerate about her (?) personality, i wish all owners will be like that. i cannot raise a farm coz i will end up keeping them all as my pet so that is a huge bummer haha. anyway, regarding to your other questions. NO i am not REALLY aware of any phobias of animals THOUGH i have to admit that i need to read more about my dog behavior coz he is afraid of so many stuff specially sewerage, he is not gonna walk near it and you will have to carry him if there is no other way for him as it is very hard for him coz he will start shakin. it is very sad coz i dont know how and where it started coz we got him as a puppy from a puppy mills i guess. he doesnt like other people and showed a lot of fear to any kind of noises specially the dish washer, you will find him hiding underneath the bed which is very far from our kitchen but i guess that is the only place he find himself safe. do you know anything about this kind of behavior? you seem to know a lot of phobias so i wonder if you can share some info with me, i appreciate it a lot. good night!

Yes, I did know pigs were actually very smart creatures. I could never be a farmer either..I would get too attached to animals. You got your dog from a puppy mill? I guess on one hand I should congratulate you for rescuing him from such a place, since puppy mills are terrible places...in fact, many animal groups are trying to shut them down due to the horrendous conditions the dogs live in. But that could in itself explain his behavior problems..heaven only knows what kind of conditions he was raised in-I remember seeing videos of dogs raised in puppy mills...some have a habit of just twirling around non stop in circles for instance, since they are usually kept in cages far too small for them and I imagine that behavior takes a long time to stop once the dog is adopted. Since he's afraid of sewerage it could be an indication of the filthy conditions a puppy from a mill came from and he has a memory of that

yes, you sure sound like a very loving pet owner and i am happy that there are so many out here who loves animals as well. we are sure of that our dog's behavior rooted from where he came from and then the trauma that he got when he travelled here from china. the first time he traveled is from shanghai to beijing and it was horrible - i did complain a lot at the airport but the fact that they dont care to animals out there makes it impossible for them to hear you out and understand the sentiments. then he have to travel from beijing to US coz we decided to settle here for good as we get tired of living overseas. it is already hard enough for me and my hubby to be there and it would be worst to him as our dog is labeled as not important ones. i wish i can save all the dog and cats when we are there but we dont have the money to ship them all here and give them a better life. one is already hard enough (cost us about 2 gran) but we cannot leave a family member coz of the cost. anyway, appreciate your response. my mom&dad-in-law sent us some dvd's of dog whisperer today so i will be watching that by monday and hope that can help me understand him better. have a good one.

OMG! That is so funny! I've had pets that were afraid of loud noises but never afraid of dirt. Those little boots made me laugh. I guess "these boots are made for walkin'" and she says "weee-weeee-weeee all the way home" from the market!

Scamp - my scardy Scamp
Well, Scamp is afraid of strangers, rather more afraid than normal. But I don't know that you can call a known scardy cat as a phobia.

That's a very amusing story and a cute photo, pyewacket. A pig who is afraid of dirt is sort of like a duck who is afraid of water. The Keebles should be able to find booties to fit Cinders pretty easily as her feet grow most anyplace where shoes are sold. I know of a few dogs who fear the vacuum cleaner, and we had a dog once who was so afraid of water that we had to chase her down and hold her to give her a bath. A pig who is afraid of mud is sort of like a duck who is afraid of water.

Now that is cute a pig that doesn't like to get dirty or at least get her feet dirty. That just goes to show everyone that animals have character. They are just a little more that animals they have feeling and think too. This pig know that she doesn't like to get dirty. That is so cool, i know the people she belong too had to think different about pigs after this little one. Have a nice day.

Yes, I read this story yesterday and have to admit I found it hilarious. There were loads of pictures of her too with her little wellies on. It certainly is funny to think that an animal that is supposed to love mud is afraid of it. She may grow out of it though as she gets older. But it is certainly cute to see her in her wellies hee hee.
