Have you ever cut your own hair?

While on vacation in Arizona I did a "girls" day getting my hair done with my daughter and granddaughter. It was a cut similar to how I usually wear it but she kept the bangs much longer then I like and put whisps on the side ....okay. I left it for almost two weeks but this morning I couldn't stand it one more minute so I grabbed the sissors and started to cut. I like it much better. I trimmed off the sides and cut it up over my ear....and trimmed my bangs so they weren't hanging in my face. Have you ever cut your own hair?

No I haven't.I don't think I ever will. That is just not a talent I have. Not for me or my daughter. She goes to the same salon I go to. We get our hair cut about the same time usually.

Aside from a little trimming with the electric trimmers, no, not really. I used to have my mom cut my hair thought because she was best friends with a barber and she must have learned how to cut hair from her.

I've cut my bangs before and I often thin out my hair because my hair is very thick. Who knows better how you want your hair to look than you do? I often fantasize about cutting my own hair when I dont like how it looks.

I trim my own hair all the time. Before my last couple visits to the hairdressers, I trimmed my hair for many years. I would take each group of strands of hair and snip it about an inch or so taking the last snipped peice and measuring it for the next. I'm cursed with natural curly hair so it clumps by itself and I guess for this reason it's easier to trim it.
Have a great day

Sorry but it must be an American expression....what are bangs??? I have read about people referring to bangs and hair in books but have never quite understood exactly what they are!!

When I had bangs, I would occasionally cut them myself, but with very mixed results. I have a piece that always sticks up, so it is very hard to cut my bangs straight (or I should say so that they LOOK straight). I let them grow out a long time ago, which solves that problem. I would never attempt to do any more than trim the bangs (I would never try to give myself bangs either). I have enough issues when it is cut by people who know what they're doing! (I haven't had my hair cut since September, I am still recovering from the trauma!)

I will trim my hair but never really cut it because when I am done it looks like a mouse chewed it. Sometimes the sides get too long, the sideburns, so I trim. I get carried away with a pair of scissiors so it's not safe. I only need my hair cut about once every 4-6 weeks. It grows so slow and is thin.

hi jill!
yup. just like you i have cut my own hair a lot of times before. before, i used to have bangs. i don't have natural bangs, i just cut a flock of my hair at front to have bangs. ^__^;; i was so envious at girls with gorgeous bangs so even if i naturally don't have bangs, i forced my hair to have one. and just recently, i cut my own long hair, up to my shoulders. the case was, i had a really long hair. i went to the parlor and had it curled. but when i got home, i saw that it doesn't look too good. so i cut them up to my shoulders leaving only a small curled portion. i didn't hesitate to cut it by myself. i thought i'd rather have it not perfectly layered than have it looking like a witch's hair. ^__^;; and then i thought, if it didn't go well, i would be spending days with a pony-tailed hair everyday. LOL it looked much better when short. and i was just thankful.

To save money when my kids were younger I did cut their hair myself.
I go to the bueaty shop about twice a year-so I trim my bangs alot as they grow too fast. And I hate hair in my eyes.

jillhill_ HI. When my kids were young, I cut my own hair all the time and I thought it looked very nice.
One day at a McDonald's bday party for my daughter's friend, one of the mom's came over and asked me if I did my own hair!
I was so pleased she noticed. "Yes, I told her" proudly, "I do cut my own hair."
She smiled and walked away. While I was thinking how nice that was, the mom returned and handed me her business card.
It was for a hair salon_

Uhhh, yeah!....Prince Valent here I am....OMG. I cut my hair all the time and it can look so UGLY! My friends just know me and know this is what I do and they laugh. I start chopping and figure it will grow back if I screw up really bad. After a few chop jobs I will go to a salon and suck up my pride and ask them to fix it however they think will look best. Ha! I am serious! Whatever...it is only hair. I also used to slap some color on my hair which was even more disasterous....I don't touch that anymore...I now get my color at the salon.

Oh,please,I don't want to do experiment on my head,I think it is dangerous to cut my own hair.Perhaps girls can modify their hair in front of the mirror, but the boys,to be the best to go the barber shop.

I cut my hair quite frequently to save on visits to the hairdressers, have had some horrible experiences and really dread going- worse than the dentists!! Have had hair cuts that have just been so awful, but worse than that; one time I got a haircut that was actually okay, had tried a new place and was happy until I went to pay... £90!! (~$180), no way! I couldn't believe it!

Frankly, I always think whoever can cut his/her own hair, that person has the gift to do so. I never have this type of gift and always want to give it a try but still have no strength to take action. What if my attempt spoils my look in the public? It is wise to make an appointment with my favourite hairdresser and let her to do the job.

oh yes I have to trim my bangs all the time as my hair
grows so fast. I hate it in my eyes. I also even out
spots where the fantastic sams employees missed and
thus have a more even hair style.some of them are
great and others are not so great. lol.lol.

I always cut my own hair. I haven't been to a hair salon in at least five years. I actually just cut my hair yesterday. Took about 2.5 inches off and added some chunky layers. I don't trust anyone else with my hair. If I mess it up its my fault. But, if I have to pay someone to mess it up I'd get p'd off real quick. Why pay someone $20+ when most the time they do something that we don't like?
