The value of money has devalued since then upto a considerable extent. May be Rupees one hundred was a huge amount for me, when I used to get ten paise, per day, as my pocket money. But in today's life you may find some parents handing over a Hundred Rupees Note everyday to their kids.

Yeah these kids will be giving 1000 rupee notes to their children as pocket money. And at this rate four generations down the children have to carry their pocket money in trucks I think. And we can have a good laugh from the heavens Deepak.

Bala, It was 50 (INR), more or less. I think, it was more about our yearnings and urge than the denomination. Mine was very little, very less, it still is. With 50 rupees I could buy poster color bottles, five star choc'late, glitters, stickers of mickey and donald...I could buy my world.

That's a beauty your response. It has told precisely the greatness of the mind that can conquer the money with ease.I just loved that response Mimpi. It needs a very very positive ,humble, content and beautiful mind to look at 50/= this way.

When I was a boy the sight of a hundred rupee bill would have dilated my pupils for a doctor to examine the eyes completely without the help of the drops.

When I was a kid I've perceived a really huge ammount of cash. 500zl (It's something like 250$ now). I could buy really almost everything but I decided to help my parents with their debts. Damn my good heart! :P

I've really enjoyed reading all of these nifty responses. When I was a very young child, I would get an orange, a shiny penny, and a stick of peppermint for Christmas. At that time in my life, the idea of a fifty cent piece was beyond imagination for me. I once saw a man flipping a fifty cent piece into the air and I was astounded at its size and also at the amount of money that it represented. For me, that was a huge amount -- not just fifty cents, but a fifty cent piece.

There must be a reason for remembering and forgetting a thing. If you cannot remember certain parts of your child hood it is the wish of God and so you are blessed with some unknown reason.Yes Childhood is a great period in most of the people and not for every one.

I was in the boarding. We used to wait eargerly for the matron to hand out our pocket for the week, which would be done on saturdays.1st&2nd std kids would get 25p.That was great excitement.I could buy enough gignuts(groundnuts) from my tuck shop. Then 3rd &4th they used to give us 50p.That was a huge jump for me.When I came to the 5th std its was One Rupee.I was waiting to reach this amount because that meant alot to me.I could such alot from the tuck shop. Now ofcourse the present day kids have absolutely no value for money.Cant blame them too as everything is sooooo expensive.Unlike how it was when we grew up.This was real fond memories of the by gone days. Thanks for this discussion.

A huge amount for me was $100. A huge amount as in this person is worth . . . would be ~$1,000,000 which I guess really isn't that much money but it seemed like a FORTUNE to me when I was smaller. Thanks Zelo

When I was just a kid, I thought that one hundred dollars was a huge amount. I would have loved to have had a hundred dollars in my pocket to spend to buy whatever I wanted with it. I would have bought me some new clothes and shoes with it. One hundred dollars these days does not go far at all for most things.

Hi. When I was a kid $100 was perceived to me as a huge amount. I thought that if I had that sum, I could buy a house, car, and beautiful clothes. Oh, the dreams of youth!

There should have been a period where you could have been able to buy all those things you mentioned for that 100$.

I can't remember what I thought was loads when I was a kid, but I do laugh quietly to myself when I hear my son talking to his friends about money. He has some money in the bank and feels that he's rich. I can't imagine he'd get much change out of his savings once he's filled a vehicle with fuel and bought some food! I see one of my tasks as a parent is to teach my kids the value of money though, so I work hard with him at comparing the prices of things he wants to buy and working out their value to him. Like all of us, sometimes he reconsiders him immediate 'wants' when he thinks about their value in terms of what else he could buy with the same money or how many weeks he would need to save.

back at school my parents used to give me a very little amount of money in the wake of me losing or getting robbed . in those days Rs.100 is considered a jackpot. anybody whose having the 100 note is believed to be born with a silver spoon ...lolz...nowadays not even a Rs.1000 note is worth it . money is becoming a matter of history day by day . every one is getting richer . everyone is earning money .

If not properly maintain the production of the food the money will lose it's value and the example is Zimbabwe. The inflation in Zimbwave is 10000% now.A sausage costs about 30million Zimbabwe dollars(1.25 American dollars) and a 30 pounds potato bag is 160 million Zimbabwe dollars. Can you believe it?

I think when I was a small child that $20 seemed like alot. Then as a teen I probably thought $100 was quite a bit. Now that I'm an adult, wow, 20 bucks or 100 bucks doesn't seem to go very far at all anymore. 20 bucks won't even get you half a tank of gas now.

Right .You have to carry the money in shopping bags and buy the things and bring them back in small purses in the future.

Wow! when I was a kid $100.00 was already a fortune since I was able to buy a few nice clothes already with that kind of money. Not anymore, specially with the gas prices.

When I was a kid, I perceived $50 as a big amount. I hardly get to own a $50 note. My pocket money then was only about $1 a day.

Bala I think that when I was a boy 6d (about the same number of INR I think) was a fortune. I could by sweets or a comic book, pencils perhaps and caps (that went bang when put in a toy pistol). My father used to take £5 (420 INR approx) out of the bank for the weekend. Now that was serious money!
