Fondant Flowers

I went to a culinary school and learned how to make fondant flowers for cakes. My first question is, would someone prefer to eat a cake with fondant flowers or icing flowers? My second question is, would you rather buy a cake with fondant flowers or icing flowers? It seems that fondant cakes are more popular but do they taste any good?

Fondant flowers to me are prettier than buttercream or royal icing, but I prefer the cake to be buttercream or whipped topping. Fondant looks very nice and on wedding cakes I think the Fondant looks great, but I don't care for the texture of it. I have talked to different people and some really like the taste and others don't like it at all. But I have learned depending on which brand you are using it does have a different taste. I have made some that taste good, but I still don't like the texture. I also like how the fondant is like playdough and you can make people and other objects. You can really make the cake very personal.

My thoughts exactly, I've only seen one brand out there and have tried to make it myself but failed. The store bought kind tastes so fake to me but it seems others feel the same.

It has been a very long time since I've eaten regular cakes since they're not vegan (is fondant vegan?). But from what I remember, icing tasted a lot better, but I usually bought the fondant cakes because they were so much prettier. And they still tasted okay. If fondant is vegan, I would love it if someone made vegan cakes with those flowers. So I'd have to vote for fondant even though icing tastes better.

Fondant is just sugar and water. Could be any or all of the following: powdered, corn syrup or sugar cane.

I have never eaten fondant flowers before. I think that they look a whole lot prettier and they hold up better than regular icing flowers, but as far as taste goes I have no idea. I would rather buy a cake with regular icing flowers cause I know those taste good.

Fondant is usually found on wedding cakes, you can mold it and roll it out like dough.

I think I've only had fondant once and that was at my brother's wedding. I wasn't really impressed with it. I don't know if it it was the fondant itself or the flavor. His ex-wife is a bit weird and likes to be different. I'd have to give it another try sometime. What they can do with fondant is incredible and the cakes are amazing.

I love the dinamic of being able to mold the icing into so many possibilities and themes.
