He took his final GCSE exam this afternoon and so that is it, school life is now over for my 16 year old son. Whether he will go to college in September now will depend a) on his results and b) if he finds something else beforehand that he really wants to do.
Truth be told I know he does not want to go to college, but he knows he will have to unless he gets something better. I know he is glad to have left school, it has not been the best of years for him which is a shame, at least it is over now.
Do you remember when you left school for good?
How did you feel? Were you happy or sad to be leaving?
How well did you do in your exams?

Oh I bet it is s relief for you both with the way things have been sweetheart! I do remember leaving school knowing I would be starting at college doing exactly what I wanted after the summer! I felt very grown up walking out of school for the last time as a student (if only i had realised!) I did quite well in my exams but not as well as I could have done. I do hope that your son manages to realise what he really wants - I am sure with you there supporting him he will! xxx

I do support him, always have even when I should not. But he is getting harder and harder to support, I am not happy at all xx

Hi Gemini_rose, Well done for him taking all his exams especially because the bullies made it difficult for him but he had your support as a mother to help him through eh! I hope he finds out what he wants to do but he needs to chill a bit now eh whilst he decides. I personally went straight out to work I had had enough of education when I initally left but have gone on part-time whilst working to do A levels and am in the middle of a degree at the moment too. I didn't dislike school but didn't like it either I just went. I was permanently suspended for the whole of the last year but not expelled so I could go in and take my exams believe it or not because I was a troublemake, ME? What in fact happened was during a rounders mat this girl started hitting another with the bat well I wasn't haven't that so I intervened and said if you are going to fight fight fair not with a weapon but guess who got caught with the bat, yes ME. Even though everyone told what had happened the girl who I taken the bat off was expelled as it was her last strike as had been from other school and myself and the victim were suspended. Oh what fun, not. I still react the same though. Ellie :D

I have got the same though with my younger daughter she left school started college got a job got laid off and is now looking at going back to studing whilst also job hunting. Unfortunately the area we live a lot of the work is seasonal or she is too young for within the leisure industry so I really don't know what direction she is going to take bless. Let him have his summer break to consider his options really i suppose is all you can do, maybe get him to look for some part-time work to experience that world a bit too. I wish him well. Ellie :D

I would have done the same thing. I think it will come right for him, it just worries a parent when they seem undecided.

I have a 16 year old daughter and her school let out for the summer about two weeks ago. She still has two years of school to go before she can graduate and possibly go to college. My daughter glad that school is out also. she may go to beauty college when she graduates high school. she would like to learn how to do false fingernails and cut hair.
I remember when I graduated high school. I was so happy at the time. I did very well on my exams. I miss school now that I am older though but that is only because life is so hard when you get out on your own.

It sounds like she is focused and that is a good thing, I hope that she does well.

What a relief gemini!
It was a battle, but thankfully that phase is over.
His last year of high school was an uphill battle to say the least, but he accomplished it and i'm happy for him, so i take this opertunity to congratulate him.
When i started high shool, i couldn't wait for it to be over, but when that day came i must admit that i had mixed emmotions.
On the night of my gaduation reality started to set in, and i realized that i was not fully prepared for the adult world that i was being thrust into.
I took only six GCE courses and passed five, boy was that a long time ago,as we dont take the GCE's anymore, but our own national exams.I did well enough to get a four year scholarship to our local college.

i was 16 when i left school. i had to make a choice of paying rent and have a place to live.. or go to school, i couldnt do both. i tried working night shift full time, and fulltime highschool during the day.. and it just didnt work very well on 4ish hours of sleep everynight. one had to go, and i had a powerful need to eat, so school went. it broke my heart to leave.. i loved school (even if i despised my classmates LOL) i loved to learn.. still do. when i was 22.. i finally took the time to take my ged exams.. skipped the nightschool that i was told id need to "brush-up" on things in order to pass because i didnt have the time for it.. found out when they were giving the test and where.. walked in, plopped my money onto the table.. took the tests and walked out. all in all i didnt do too badly.. out of about 250-300 people that took it that weekend.. i scored 3rd highest of them all. ..;beams happily;..

whether its in person or online.. dont cut yerself short. its school ..;nods;.. you will still have homework, and assignments due.. deadlnes to meet.. all of everything same as in person school.. only difference is if you feel like it.. you can go to class nekked without it ending in a screaming fit when you wake up
pretty much every university now provides online curriculum.. i say go for it and quit thinking about going for it!1

Ive just seen some lads wearing shirts that have their school pals names scribbled all over them!!Yes I wanted to leave school Rose..I had found lads...and it wasnt `cool` to be seen in a school uniform by the lads!!...and lets face it the lads were far more interesting than lessons!!..but Mum and Dad had an absolute hissy fit!!!I was virtually dragged into the Headmasters office...and given this massive lecture on the damage that i was doing by leaving school...suffice to say it went into one ear and out of another....but on reflection maybe I should have stayed on...and done a bit more schooling..but you just think that you know best at that age!!

Hi gemini, I had mixed emotions when I left High School, excited to be a College student and to pursue my dreams yet sad since all my friends are going to a different colleges/universities.After those year, There are couple of friends whom I never met again. I was doing good in my exams and made me take the course which was my second choice!
I hope your son will make it and be happy to whatever he will pursue this coming school year!

I had finished my 3rd year exams of my engineering today.
Leaving the school for me was a moment mixture of sorrow and joy. I felt sad because i will miss my school friends and my school and the happy thing is that My exams are over and will be able to achieve something higher in life.

Once i think that it's gald to leave school, without homework, and needn't to bear the boring lessions, what's more ,i can sleep later enough, needn't to sign up my name every early morning, but now I choosed to continue my study, because i don"t know what t can do without study, anyhow school is less pressure than outsider.the life in school is simple and not diffcule.
