I have mulled it over for a couple of days because something in this story touched me so deeply that I honestly didn't know how I should approach it. It happened two days ago just up the street from me in the complex in which I live. A sunny summer day with lots of little kids outside playing. In an instant someone comes up and a confrontation takes place between the 3 people who are on the scene and an unidentified newcomer. The three young people are down on the ground and the shooter flees. The young woman of the group, mother of 2, did not survive. Gone at 22 years old. I didn't know the people involved personally, but I am sickened by this event no less. I am sick to death of the lack of regard for human life that has become so common among many young people today. What has gone so terribly wrong with our world?

This indeed is a sad story. It seems we as a society want/seek/need immediate gratification of our thoughts and wishes but if that gratification does not result we do whatever we want without worrying about any consequences.Has the society we live in become so blaise about life ?Is this really a throw-away society?Have rules effectively removed parents from having discipline in their homes? We DO live in a society running amuck in many ways.

You are absolutely rigfht, lonewolfnan, and I do blame a lot of these problems on the system's taking away much of parental authority.

hi i know it seems to b very painfull but it is happening not in ur single locality, this disease has virused our whole world.this is only due to lack of love for the humanity.everyone wants to live for his own.the only one way toovercome this problem is love .you treat this disease with love for only 3 persons in ur life ,see the results after 3 years.

There would not exist such a problem, libranavi, if people only had love for one another. Some people have either forgotten how to love or never learned.

It's quite sad for me everytime I saw stories like this. Unfortunately this happening everywhere, where person did not have another way to sort big problem but to take their lives as they think they would get away with that. It's not right and they just don't have some faiths to keep themselves alive. About two days ago, a 15 year old father (yes it's not a typo and it's true) killed himself by passing car when he crossed the road in buff but only covered in blanket. If something isn't done to stop all of the crime, subha, I'm afraid to even think of what will happen in the near future.

I'm relly sorry to see this stroy.Maybe this things in my country is not so commen as your society. But I can feel the sadness. Life is invaluable,we should do our best to protect it.Maybe something is out of our control, for exaple ,the Sichuan earthquake in China. We can't stop the earthquake but we can do everything to save more lives. That is to mean, we are not able to prevent the natural calamities but we can strive as much as possible to avoid the man-made calamities
One word "treasure"

It would appear, hannah, that there are enough natural disasters occurring to make people refrain from creating their own small disasters so frequently.

This is a complex question with no real answer. Tragedies such as this are happening across our world with the speed of light. It is sickening, heartbreaking and totally without purpose or reason. There are many areas to place the blame, but in reality, the blame lies in our own lap.
We allow things like this to continue. Penalties for taking the life of another far before it should have been taken are not harsh enough.
Parental guidance is a thing of the past. Too many parents are forced to work two or three jobs just to feed their children and put a roof over their heads. It doesn't leave much time for a parent to know where their child is, who they are with and what they are doing. Most do not have the time nor make the time to teach their child right and wrong, or to give them the strength to stand up for their values.
Television and video games promote violence without properly explaining the consequence of the action. Parents do not take the time to sit with their child and explain what that consequence might be.
And the list goes on. The best thing that we can do is to teach our babies right and wrong, and give them the strength and guidance to stick to those morals, no matter the cost.

Yes, rantingqueen, I agree that there are more than enough of these events happening all over the world. I also admit that there is plenty of blame to go around. I don't agree that television shows and video games are largely responsible for all of the violence. Most normally adept young people are smart enough to know what is reality. I realize that in many homes the parents are working and away a lot of the time, but there is also a segment in our society where this is not the case. Many of these kids come from homes parented by single mothers who are not even trying to set a good example for their kids. This results in a lack of moral guidance on behalf of the kids.

No exclamations or expressions that i put here, will bring back the life.. Seems though, i am a bit arrogant..May be.. it is the reflection or anger that i have on the society.
One basic reason, which i have read in these responses is that, the lack of parental intervention.. But how far it, has its weight in bringing up of a man in the society.. i cant understand.
Only, kids spend most of their time available with the outside world than with their parents.
External factors do constantly impinge on the minds of these kids, and slowly lead them off the track. Only a handful who have grit and determination survive these bad and easily acquirable instincts.
The main factor that impacts the minds of people is their lust of gaining importance in the society in which they live, the catalyst of this process is the selfishness and lust for money.
Imagine this.... Remove the concept of money and fame from the world...
Would you ever witness a scenario of this kind?
Take care friend.
