9-11. Did al-Qaida really do it?

I know this post will probably get me fingered as stupid and unamerican, but I've resonably tough skin.
I wonder sometimes if al-Qaida really is responsible for the attacks on the World Trade Center and other sites, or if they just conviniently accepted responsibility when we blamed them. After all, their terrorists and wouldn't they want to appear to be the biggest, baddest wolf possible.
Compared with the standard suicide method of terror, this seems far too grandios, specific, and elaborate for a group which shows a preferance to convinience by bombing local embasies, schools and market places.
I'm not saying they didn't do it, but the only proof we have is what our government says so (I don't care about "the tapes". Very few Americans speak bin Laden's language, so we can't generally understand or verify what's really being said; and I don't care about "the arrests" as I've never met any of these people or anyone who knew a terrorist personally).
I think that we as Americans need to be more critical in our thinking and of what we view as news, because right now there is an incredible amount of blatent propaganda going around, one only needs to open the eyes to see it.

While I do agree that our news outlets are extremely biased and spew way too much propaganda disguised as news, I also think that there was way too much interest in what went down that day for any piece of evidence to have been covered up or manufactured. The events of 9-11 were very well planned and, regardless of whether we trust our news media or not, other countries have verified what Bin Laden said. It would be impossible for a conspiracy to hide/alter facts to exist because too many people are involved.

Thanks for that view. It helps me understand better why we are so after al-qaida. Maybe I should pay better attention to BBC.

I do not think you are the only one who wonders about this! After all, we were about to order a recall of the votes, as it was a presidential year! It is like so many other events, in that we may never really know what happened and who all were involved in the planning process! I do know that the US put Saddam into power, and we took him out too! I also know that Republicans have traditionally believed that war helps our economy! Go figure!
