old rock and metal versus new rock and metal

I have a friend who is really obsessed with the old clasic rock and metal bands like iron maiden, metallica, black sabath etc etc but even though I love those bands too I also like many other newer bands and the new kinds of rock and metal because even though not as pure as those mentioned before they do have certain aspects I like really much. For example disturbed I just love their voice and drums and they have a pretty nice rythm too and I believe that those overpower theyr weakness in varriety (it's no lie that their songs share many common things) and weakness in guiatar thus making them a great band. Or corrosion of conformity who have average drums and voice and their guitar is quite repetitive within the song BUT is so powerfull you can really feel it and since guitar is my favourite instrument I can't help myself hearing some of their songs again and again :P anyways I think that modern rock and metal groups may luck generaly in averall performance and in originality but many of them have unicque traits that make them as great as the older "orignal" rock and metal bands :P Please tell me your opinions :D
