What type of foods and dishes do you cook during the summer?

Do you mind cooking when it's hot? Does the heat from the kitchen bother you? I love cooking and being in the kitchen. I don't mind the heat except during the summer when it's especially hot, then I cook during the morning time and that makes things nicer for me! During the summer time, I cook recipes that don't require extensive heat. If I can cook it up in fifteen minutes or less then that's less time in a hot kitchen. I like to cook no matter the weather and I like talking about cooking, even more! What about you? Do you cook different recipes during the summer than the winter?

I use my crockpot also many times a week. In the summer we try to BBQ as much as we can. There is nothing lick chick or steak on the grill.

My best summer cooking friends are the crockpot, the foreman grill, and the outdoor grill. I also like the refigerator, just to stand with the door open.

We mostly use the barbeque in the summer. Unlike you, I absolutely hate the heat. If we want something that has to be cooked in the oven, then we eat in the family room down in the basement. It's always nice and cool down there.

I use a crock pot for most of my meals so I don't have to fire up the oven that really heats up the house. So I only use the oven in the wintertime and the crock pot goes all year round.

I hate cooking, indoors, when it is hot out, so I don't. I cook outdoors. I love to barbeque so it is not a chore to me to do. I love to eat the food too, as it is good and it is good for you, because most of the fat has already dripped off by the time it is cooked. I also like a lot of salads in the summer months. And if the evening is cool enough I will cook my potatoes and eggs for potatoe salad the next day. I like to eat fruit salads a lot too, when it is hot out.

The heat from the kitchen doesn't bother me as my house is pretty well-air conditioned, so none of us here mind cooking during the summer. We do tend to choose colder foods though, that don't require excessive heating and preparation. One thing we always eat more in the summer than we do in the winter are BLT's. We also make a lot of smoothies and eat a lot of popsicles. On 4th of July we usually have cookouts. In fact that is about the only time of year I can think of when we cook outside rather than in.

Hi Beautyqueen, It is summer here in chennai most of the time. It is either hot , hotter and hottest or humid, more humid and most humid days. So if I try to avoid cooking while the sun shines, I'll have to keep away from the kitchen most of the time. Sono use at all trying to avoid the heat. I'll finish my cooking either in the morning before noon or in the evening after sunset. We have to eat and so we have to cook!!! I have to cook different dishes most of the time, that is what the family likes.

I cook a lot of soups and stews, and chili in the winter. During the summer, I cook a lot of the same recipes as I do in the winter but, no soups or stews. And, rarely will I cook my chili in the summer. And, it isn't really about the heat in the kitchen. As long as my AC is working, I am ok. Actually, during the fall and winter, the sun is in a really bad spot for me while I cook so, it actually hinders me more than it does in the spring and summer. That being said, I actually took the opportunity to shirk my cooking duties when our downstairs AC broke. It was broken for about 6 days and, I didn't cook 3 of them. Granted, 2 of those three days were during the weekend and I take the weekends off from cooking because, I think it is only fair. I actually sort of think that it is a way to make sure that I don't get burnt out on cooking. I like to cook but, sometimes, after I get home from working all day, I really don't want to cook. But, I push through and do it anyway. The weekends are a way for me to spoil myself. Anyway, when the AC broke and it was in the 80's in my house, I didn't handle it well so, on the last day that the AC was broken, I just scrapped the whole cooking plan. I wasn't feeling very hungry anyway because heat zaps me of my appetite so, why bother cooking for two when half of us wasn't going to be eating and that one person who wasn't going to be eating was also going to be the only person suffering the heat while cooking? LoL!

Yes I diffently hate cooking in summer. The best part about summer is Barbeques. Unlike you I am a person who hates being in the kitchen and slaving over a stove. During summer Barbeques and salads are they way to go for my family. In winter I have no choose to but to slave over a stove to cook, nut the heat does come in handy durning winter (it helps to warm up the house. In winter I would cook cassarolls and soups sometimes stirfrys. So yes I do cook different recipes durning summer that winter. I would have to try that cooking in the morning in summer time.

I eat a lot of salads in the summer. This will be my first summer with a foreman grill, and I can grill all kinds of lean meat to add to my salads. I do not want to be in the kitchen except for the early morning hours.

I live in Spain, so it gets really hot in the summer and because our house isn't heated very well, we feel the cold in the winter. So, in the winter I cook alot of stews and curries and then in the summer we have alot of barbeques and salads. It does get a bit boring sometimes, so I have to think of interesting varieties to the salads and the marinades, but I am equal to the challenge!
