Bicycle Commuting

I couldn't find any mylot discussion so I guess I'll start one. I'm looking for a bike (bicycle not motor) to ride to work (only about 5 miles) a couple days a week. I'm excited about this...just thinking about the weight I'll lose, the great shape I'll get in and the gas and vehicle expenses I'll save. Anyone else on MyLot use a bicycle to commute to work or anywhere in your neighborhood. How far do you go? How long does it take you there? What about inclement weather? Do you travel on roads with heavy or semi-heavy traffic?

What a great idea! I salute you JFrench96! I just wish all of the other 4 wheelers would do the same. It would make my and about 5 million other truck drivers jobs so much easier! LOL! Have a great ride!

bike commuting is good, but u take care of the pollution when u r heavy traqfic roads, if u r in a country side biking is the best possible way of exercise even if ur goin got the office

Thanks for commenting, knightrider. The area I'll be commuting in is mostly suburban so pollution is not too too bad.

Hello, JFrench96. Welcome to myLot. I hope you make a lot of friends and enjoy yourself here. There are some truly wonderful people to meet.
I think it is an amazing idea. If my lifestyle was such that I could commute to work by bicycle, I would do it for sure. I am currently a SAHM and it would be unsafe for me to try to bicycle my child around to all that we attend. But if it were at all possible, I would try to find a way.

Thanks for commenting, makingpots. Yea kids are why I couldn't do it all the time. I have four of them and so when I need to take them somewhere I obiviously will have to drive. I can still ride a couple days of week when the hubby is home from work and I have to work or the kids are at school.

good day. I tried commuting by bike and it feels good, specially when the weather is in agreement with you, cloudy not to hot, I usually bike to a mall near us about 4 miles one way. its good. good for exercise and good for the environment. I prefer moderate traffic so that vehicles by general are slowed down.
