I know that is about time for my 15 month old son to give up the bottle, and believe me I am so ready for it. I don't have much trouble with him drinking from a cup or straw during the day. But at night when he awakes he is always looking for that bottle. So I would like to know what is a good way to get rid of it. Help me please!

I'm speaking of the bottle that babies drink milk out of. Sorry gxnfly if you misunderstood. Most pediatricians tell me that is time for him to just drink out of a cup. Also alot of daycare centers don't accept children his age who drink out of bottles.

We had the same problem. My daughter ended up going to her Nana's and I actually forgot to bring it back. I then told her it was at Nana's house. She asked for me to buy another one but luckily she got over it in a couple days. Luckily she was only using one at night before she went to bed.

I guess that situation worked out for your advantage mommye. I am hopeful he will learn soon to give it up!

I guess it was just a slow conditioning of my son's thinking. When he got his birthday we were starting telling him that he is big already and big kids do not drink from bottles anymore. At first there was of course resistance but eventually he gave in one night then one day we realized that he was not asking for it anymore. He was proud of it and we just complimented him to further increase his confidence breaking that habit. Be patient enough to encourage him to finally give up his habit and eventually he will with gentel persuasion.

I have found that using the "big kid" quote to get kids to give up baby behavior works quite effectively.

I just went cold turkey with my daughter. It was a couple of bad nights, but it passed pretty quick. I just took them all and threw them away so nobody else could hand her a bottle accidentally. She was doing fine, though when I went opn nights for a few days. I was ready to kill my mom because I had gotten her over it and then my mom decided to give her a sippie cup at night which meant I had to start breaking her of it all over again. It was even harder then because I could not explain to toddler why she could have a sippie cup the rest of the day, but not to take to bed. Good luck with it.

Thank you so much for offering the advice! I guess if we don't resolve it within the next week or two I just might have to throw them all away like you did.
