My month old baby boy I believe has colic. He cries alot, very gassy, doesn't have a bowel movement w/ every feeding like he did the first 3 weeks, and he gags alot, spits up. He was on Similiac Advance and now he is on Similiac isomil advance which is a soy formula. He isn't as fussy as he use to be but now it's just the gaging (spit ups) and not having a bowel movement like he should. He doesn't have an appointment until Thursday. He just doesn't like the taste of the new formula either. I am also pumping my milk and giving to him. I'm just so worried. This is my first child so this colic thing is freaking me out. My jaws hurt from being tense and worried. When can infants have water? If anyone has any advice please feel free to feel me in. I'm new at this mommy thing. I love him so much and I don't like seeing him upset and in pain.

I feel for you. My youngest is 11 years old and had colic when he was a baby. I was nursing and using formula. The doctor told me to go to soy and stop nursing him. I used Mylicon all the time. He was so bad he didn't even want to be held. He would kick and fight anyone who held him, even at a few weeks old. I thought I would never bond with him, but I did. If he is gagging, you may also want to try a different type of bottle. I tried all kinds of bottles. One thing that I used was the Playtex nurser. It has a nipple that is formed more like a mother and the disposable bags prevent too much air from being swallowed by the baby. The less air they swallow, the less pain they will have from it. Another thing I did was lay him on a bed or floor and gently push his legs into his belly and chest. I found that to work amazingly. It helped push the gas bubbles out quicker, which means quicker relief. I honestly feel for you. Another thing is to make sure you have some help or support for you. It can be extremely trying for you to deal with the child all the time. It is in your best interest and the baby's to make sure you have help. God Bless!

Infants can have bottled, distilled water at any time. I was fortunate enough to never have a child with colic, however I had a friend who did, and she would take her child into the bathroom, sit down and turn the shower on full hot and let it fill with steam. For some reason this seemed to help. As for the bowel movement, I would definitely call your Pediatrician, but it is most likely the formula. Sometimes the iron is too much for a body to handle, even an adult body will have issues with iron. Is the spit up a lot or a little? Have you checked the type of nipple that you use? There are nipples that have a fast flow and a slow flow and a flow in between. The nipple size may be too big for him, letting in too much formula at once. If this is the case, it will cause the gagging reflex and the spit up. Best choice, call your Pediatrician, check those nipples and try not to worry so much. It sounds like you are doing fine right now!

Try him on some type of gentle ease, it is a soy based but helps with spitting up. I know it's not easy what so ever taking care of a colicky child, so I do wish you the best of luck! I hated seeing my son in pain when he was teething and it's only just begining. Colic is not really curable, just make sure you burp him, and keep him happy, scientists don't know what causes colic only that it may be caused by many things, if he is gassy use mylicon, call a pedi, they are usually 24/7 on call to see how much to give a small infant.

Hi i had the same feeling when i first had my daughter she did the same thing. have u changed the kind of bottle he;s drinking out of. i had to put my daughter on the bottle with the liners where u can squeeze out the air so they wont get that in there systems that could be making him gag. and also since its soy there is more iron in it he may be constipated, my daughter had the same thing u can give him water at this age jus make sure it is like room temperature and make sure its bottled water the nursery water is not good for babies i read something on it one time where it said it wasnt cleaned how it was suppose to be. and also a little karo syrup in his formula will also make him have a bowel movement. i had to do the same thing a couple of times because the amountof iron was so strong in the formula. my daughter was on enfamil prosobee with lipil. but i hope everything turns out fine for him and u.

Bless your heart. First, most baby doctors are used to getting calls from new moms, so don't hesitate to call the doc. What we tend to forget is that all babies (and kids and adults) are different. What works for one might not work for another. And what works today may not work tomorrow, even for the same child. My sister was a colicky baby and the doc told my mother it was because she was so stressed. Babies pick up on that. The only thing that helped her was for someone to stand up and rock back and forth. My parents and grandmother took turns. Mom also hired 2 teen sisters to take my sister on walks each afternoon. For some reason, going in the buggy was also soothing to her. And it helped my mom collect herself and sometimes nap, knowing that there was another tough night coming.
