We have been raising my two granddaughters for the past 4 years. Kayla is 4 and Gabby is 5. Kayla has this thing at night if Papa leaves she starts getting depressed and cries and says 'I miss paaaapaaaaaa. Can I call him?' And of course I cave and call him and hand her the phone. Oh man I get teary eyed everytime. She just blubbers up and 'I miss you papa.' and he is like 'Its ok papa will be home in a little bit. I love you. Dont cry.' and the whole time she is just bawling. I am sitting there with tears running down my face and I can hear it in his voice that he is teary too. After she talks to him I tell him to hurry home. I just scoop her up and hold her and then she wants to sleep in our bed (which I let her because she is spoiled) and she goes right to sleep. Gabby woke up the other night after Kaylas little episode and cried for papa too. He still wasnt home and she ended up in our bed too. It happens sometime 3-4 times a month. Am I doing wrong with letting them sleep in our bed or is it an ok thing? They will sleep in their own bed after that but it is more of a secure thing.

I dont know all the details of why your raisng your granddaughters but if they feel more secure sleeping with you then I say let them,4 and 5yr olds need to feel that.I praise you for everything your doing for them and they are very lucky to have you. I also have a granddaughter named Gabby it is actually Gabrielle but we call her Gabby and it fits she is always gabbing.Take Care and God Bless you and your family.

My Gabby is always talking too. From the moment she gets up til she falls asleep at night. lol
I have them because their mother didnt take care of them and the state was gonna take them out of the home so me and my husband took them in and have had them for 4 years. I wouldnt trade it for the world. They have come a long way and I have praised God that they are adjusted, happy little girls.

My daughter sleeps with us as well! She cries for her papa as well! She has slept with me since the day she was born. I do think it makes the feel secure. I will let her sleep with me until forever. she is 2 now. I have to teenage boys and my husband would not let them sleep with us. so I'm not missing out now. I don't think it hurts anything. If you are comfortable with that is all that matters.

My two kids are teens now. they both went thru a phase at age three to about 6. mainly when they got scared with lightning and thunder.
or power outages. Than after age 6 not since then. I missed that age. at 14 and 16 no longer cuddle. We still get hugs and that's about it.

They come in our bed because of the night terrors they have every once in awhile. It is sad when there isnt much you can do to get rid of them. They have both been through the ringer. I am loving the cuddles and hugs with their little arms wrapped around my neck. It is so heart warming. I think I am gonna miss it all when they start growing out of it.
