I live in Tucson Arizona and the summer monsoon officially begins this weekend, June 15. With the rainy season approaching I worry about my dogs getting a hold of Colorado River Toads. As you know, the toads secrete toxins which can be fatal to dogs. I try to take precautions to prevent the dogs from mauling the toads but it seems that every summer my dog Toby will get a hold of at least one toad. Does anyone have a suggestion on keeping the toads out of my yard?

Salt lol.
Well a more effective way, try to keep your yard void of anything a toad can hide in, like a log, rocks etc. Keep your grass short, and um... well I'm not too sure about anything else, I wish you luck this year in keeping your dog away from the toads!

My dad actually suggested salt. Anyway, being in the desert I don't have a lot grass and I try to keep the yard uncluttered because of rattlesnakes. I wonder if salt would really work? Maybe I'll investigate that.

I figured salt because a toads skin has to be moist on the outside and salt eats up any fresh water. So... in light of that... I'm sure toads would stay away from salt,
if you do find out, tell us! that would be an interesting thing to know!
