How well would you rank your English writing skills currently? What kind of help would you be interested in receiving? How much do you hope to improve your skills within half a year - do you have a specific goal in mind?

Reading and writting in English are two different things. People don't speak like they write. So, here you may get a bit confused because some of the writting words used for proper English are rather missing or people use them in a lax sort of way.
Don't go by me. Instead, I say you read as many proper English hand books as you can find. And practice writting.
The more you practice, the more you'll learn.

Getting on a site like this and communicating with people from all over the world, in English, is a really good start. Just keep reading the way proper English speaks (like myself) write, and you will pick it up in no time.

For your profile picture / avatar:
1. Go to "preferences". (It is at the top of the page: monaliu * new discussion * profile * $x.xx * preferences * logout" - Choose preferences.
2. This should take you directly to the "customize your profile" page, where you can upload an image.

You obviously need to read a lot like newspapers, magazines, etc. But it's equally important that you listen to english news and programs on TV/Radio, so that a you make use of all your senses in learning it. Last, but not the least, you need to practise writing. Forums like this are great places to do so.

Why not enroll yourself for a tutorial in English? There are one on one tutorials you can look up on the net. Read up on romance, novels, adventure or suspense, whichever you like best, and take note of spelling and grammar there. Keep a dictionary handy for uncommon terms and make up your own sentences using those new words. Finally, watch sitcoms and drama television in English because you can observe the language in probable situations and the actions can help you understand concepts. Finally, look up commonly misspelled words and correct your own mistakes. Fluency will come aonly with practice, so practice, practice, practice.

Read a lot, write a lot and listen to English speakers. Remember that with speaking and spelling, US and UK English have differences so don't get confused between them. You could also enrol in classes on the internet. There are many language schools that teach EFL, and ESL (English as a foreign language, English as a second language) and many of these are not expensive.
