As you said stress is what causes bad dreams being stressed actually has en effect on your whole body and can prove catastrophical if you keep being streesed for a long time.

If you stress yourself, more nightmares occur, try to lighten up, and before you go to sleep every night, be sure to be calm and just think of tomorrow is another great day.

Stress or anixiety are the most common causes for nightmares although some thoughts are known to contribute to bad dreams I'm a big believer in the power of dreams and listening to our subconcious mind as we would to our mind when it is awake. Dreams can be tricky to understand and i agree alot of dream books out there have been written by dreamers. Most of the objects that you can remember seeing in your dreams are usually the things that associate our lives back to our dreams. they can be really different to what you expect but some of them are easy to work out.

Bad dreams are caused by the same thing as good dreams. It's just that the things your subconscious pulls out are negative to you. In fact, most dreams contain some negativity: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightmare#Medical_investigation

Our subconscious tries to work out things we can't deal with or resolve when we're awake. I kept dreaming I was in a car in the back seat with my hands tied behind me. The car kept going off the road and I couln't stop it. One day I asked a psychologist about it. After listening to the way my life was going, she told me the nightmare made perfect sense. My life was out of control and I was powerless to control it. She was right! I had nightmares as a child of trying to run and my feet were tangled in my pajamas. I would scream and no one heard me. I tried calling the police, but the call never went through. If I had told anyone about the nightmares, they would have known I was supressing a memory of childhood molestation. I felt helpless to escape and didn't know who to tell what was happening to me because I was terrified.

Of cause. too much presure on your shoulders, you may not breath freely. what a wonderful weekend we will have,go out to have a walk,a talk,a visit and forget everything. Then,a good dream will knock your door.

i dont know wat causes them but i do know that i dont like them. most of my dreams are weird or scary. i like the nights when i dont dream at all. those are the best. my advice is to just tough it out and hope for the best. i dont think you can get rid of them cause i've been having them for years. when i wake up from a bad dream i just call my bf so that he wakes up then we text till i fall asleep again. if i call him and we talk i wont go back to sleep and that wouldn't turn out well in the morning. so i think that when you wake up from a nightmare you should find a way to get your mind off of it so you'll fall asleep again. except this time when you fall asleep you wont have a nightmare. hope this helps.

Are you taking any medicines? It don't matter if they are prescriptions or over the counter, sometimes they can cause bad or even weird dreams. You say you are under a lot of pressure also and that may be what is doing it to you.

I believe that stress or pressure in our lives will affect our dreams adversely. Your subconscious is free to think without the conscious mind holding it at bay. If you can wake yourself from the nightmare, and remember it, you can explore the details and usually find a collaborating reason in your waking world that relates. Try finding ways that will allow you to fall asleep without thinking about problems when you lay down. I always tell myself as I put my head on the pillow that I cannot change what happened yesterday, I cannot change what will be tomorrow, it is time to sleep and prepare for a better day. Follow a calming routine, such as taking a shower or a bath. Watch your favorite movie or TV show for a while, and if all else fails, shut all other thoughts out of your mind and think about what you would do if you won the lottery. This should decrease the number of nightmares, as you will be shutting out the stresses that you faced today, and the thought of those plus the new ones you will face tomorrow.
