I think it may be a good idea.

Certainly, I think that this is a good idea, but it is a good idea of limited scope. The problem would be compliance once the course is over. Good driving takes practice until the skills are ingrained. When I'm driving, most of my good driving practices are almost automatic. They are reflexes. They have to become things that a kid does without thinking about it. Only practice and experience are really going to give that to a teen in my humble opinion. However, additional coursework, if the teen can express interest in it isn't something to sneeze at either.

This sounds like an excellent idea. However I don't think it would turn out to be so effective in practice. A program like this probably wouldn't be able to become that widespread, considering many teens/parents choose the easiest and quickest way possible to have them get their license. Some driving schools even provide permit test answers for the teens to memorize. Personally I believe they should make the driving test slightly more difficult and the permit duration longer. People need to be forced to see the risks and constant exterior variables at work on the road.

I think it is a great idea too. My daughter is 16 now and she took drivers education this year in school. She now has her permit to drive. She is going to get her drivers license soon too. She is working seven days per week right now and trying to save up for a car. We let her drive every now and then so she can get some practice. I am so scared for her to get out on her own with a car though. I hate it that she has a cell phone and uses it alot too. I hope she doesn't use it while driving.

The sad thing about this it is not only teenagers. It is the older population as well. They do cause accidents and alot of them. If not the same I would have to say more. In all my years of driving I see it happen even more in the mature driver. I don't think they need a Street Survival course I think they need more of a different course at hand. Teenagers need to be aware of everything. Not just cleaning the car, blind spots and talking on the cell phone. They need everything. I think a good course for them to take is Canada's Worst Driver. A course like that would surely get them ready for driving. They need to be aware of everything that happens on the road not just minor stuff like that. I think some adults need it as well. I see so many older mature drivers that just don't even know how to drive wheather their perception is totally off or they just can't see at all. Here in Winnipeg, Canada starting next year all drivers over the age of 60 will be getting yearly tests to tests if they are even safe to drive. If not their licences are revoked. Don't get me wrong here there are some good teenager and eldery drivers but one is just too many.
