What do you think is the real reason behind the high gas prices?

I've heard a bunch of different reasons gas prices are so high, For instance, The biggest one is because there is a shortage on oil. I've also heard it is going to pay for the war in Iraq. But has anyone heard that one of the big car company's I think its Honda has developed an alternate source of fuel that can be used worldwide with no shortages. I think the oil companies know their going out of business soon so their just jacking up the prices to get what they can while they can. What do you think is the real reason behind it?
