How would you feel about Charlie Crist as John McCain's running mate? Charlie Crist the governor of Florida. He endorsed McCain on Super Tuesday, and subsequently brought about McCain's comeback in the primaries. When McCain won Florida, Rudy and Mitt were finished.
Charlie Crist is a moderate who would appeal to moderates, liberal Republicans, conservative Democrats, and Reagan Democrats. This may help McCain win over some of Hillary's supporters.

I live in Florida and I think Charlie Crist is an ok guy. As a running mate, I don't think it's a good strategical decision. Florida has voted for Bush in the last two elections and after being disenfranchised by the democrats I can't imagine that changing. There is no need to have Crist on the ballot to get extra votes out of Florida. I think he'd be wiser to select a woman like the governor of Alaska to pull in more disgruntled women who supported Hillary Clinton.

Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing a female candidate on the McCain ticket. If anything, Obama won't be able to play the "diversity" card against McCain. I like Sarah Palin, but I'm not sure if she'd be the best choice. While she has a solid record on second amendment issues, she's not as fiscally conservative as others like Mitt Romney. Of course, she's young so she could put to rest the age issue for McCain.
I also like Elizabeth Dole and Jodi Rell (popular governor of CT).

Hello TinaCL,
I believe that Crist is wayyyyyyyy tooooooooo obvious a choice! Florida is a MUST electoral need. I believe that the American people want a clear decision on a formative
'direction', not a ploy for votes.
If Crist is McCain's Veep choice, then I believe that Conservatives will abstain from pulling the lever.
I have no doubt that those same Conservatives will pull the lever in other 'lesser' races, but I am convined that they will leave McCain to the mercy of the Independents.
Call me a sceptic, but that's what I believe!

All good points. I do think Florida will go to McCain no matter what. But as for picking a moderate, it's a Catch 22 for McCain. If he picks someone too moderate he risks alienating the conservative base. If he picks someone too right-wing, he may scare off moderates, independents, and Hillary Democrats.
But if anything, I'd rather see McCain pick a moderate. Even the most disgruntled conservative would prefer McCain to a radical liberal like Obama.
How about Elizabeth Dole? Solid conservative credentials, but also female. She'll bring in the Hillary Democrats.

Absolutely! Of course, McCain's vice-presidential pick could make or break this election. If he picks someone too conservative, he risks alienating his moderate/independent voting base. If he picks a moderate, then he's left to the mercy of moderates and disgruntled Hillary supporters. Either way some people are going to be unhappy.
