Okay guys and gals, I need your advice! I live in a rural area of Pennsylvania where it is all private property and hunting is illegal. As a result we have a ton of wildlife in the area. They are beautiful to see every day, but I want them to leave my garden alone.
I hesitate to fence the garden as I love the wooded, natural look our property has. Does anyone have any ideas for kid safe remedies to keep the deer out of my garden? You see, I also have 2 toddlers who love to explore the growing plants!

We have a ton of deer in our area too. I don't have a garden, mainly because of the deer. But my neighbor has a huge contraption he built around his garden to keep the deer away-- it's sort of like a cage. Whatever it is, it works for him because the deer leave his garden alone!

I too live in a place where there is alot of wildlife. You never know when they will invade your garden and destroy everything. The only solution that worked for me was electric fencing which can be switched on at night.

This is an issue we have at our home ever year. We've tried hanging used shirts around the garden so they'll get the scent and move around a bit hopefully scaring them off. They still get in and eat things. We've tried scattering things around the perimieter of the garden and it didn't work. We finally took to buying items for an electric fence. We set it kind of low though so we can still walk in and out of the garden. We've still had some instances where the deer get in but it's the only thing we've had that's really worked at all.

We have a lot of deer around, too. They don't bother our garden too much but they would rather nibble at our small, budding fruit trees. We tied foil pie plates to each tree. The noise of the pan flapping in the breeze and the flashing is supposed to scare the deer away. It seems to be working.
I've also heard that you can either plant plants that deer like around the outside of the garden so they don't venture further in or you can plant plants they hate around the garden so they turn away. I've also heard that if you sprinkle clippings of human hair around the perimeter that they turn away. You could also string up an electic fence that you just turn on at night. One line around the garden won't spoil the view.
