Petition to rearrange interests.

I've been here for 4 months, and I'm starting to get annoyed by the inefficiency of the interests groups. No offense, but there are a lot of interest groups that are the same, but with only a slight difference in naming, e.g. from my interest rankings, I can see 2 "computers" and 1 "computer". I think these can be joined into a single interest, namely "computers". There is also a "mylot", "mylots", and "mylot.com". These can also be joined to a single "mylot.com". I'm sure there are lots more of them.
So, should we start a petition to regroup all interests? This should really help in keeping track of our interests, I think.

I've noticed the various incarnations of mylot here.
I used to belong to them all.
I think they are created by individuals or members
who post here.
I have a friend who creates her own discussion interests
all the time. She creates fun ones!
I have not created any new interest categories.
But, I guess you could just delete the less popular ones
that you don't like.

It's nice to be able to make your own interests, but be sure that it doesn't exist already. For example, having "computers", "computer", and "computing" as different interests really doesn't help in keeping track with them. So is "mylot", "mylots", and "mylot.com". These could be combined to a single interest "computers" and "mylot.com". That way, it would be easier to keep track of discussions concerning computers and mylot.

I would love to see the interests refined too. I don't know how they would do it though. This site seems very user-controlled as far as interests go. I'm not sure the admin wants to get their hands dirty with that project. I'm all for it though.

I agree that the interest group listings need to be streamlined. One discussion I started, I was not even sure where to put it and I wound up putting it in general discussion and have not had any responses.

That is honestly a very good idea. The intrests are such a mess it's not even funny. Over the last couple weeks that I have been more on mylot since I have internet access now. I have noticed people just starting discussions for the sake of starting a discussion. It isn't even catergorized properly. The intrests are so messy and so disorganized that they drive me insane. I have lots and lots of intrests and to actually sit there and go through over 2000 just to get the right intrest for the discussion is really not even worth my time to try and do. Hence probably why I don't start many discussions. But I honestly would like to see it a bit cleaner.

I'm already having trouble when sorting through the interests. I mean, I haven't seen even 10% of it, and I'm already bored sick browsing through 1000s of interests. Not to mention that most could be streamlined to a single interest...
