Okay so I am always writting stories and trying to finish them but I never do. This time I have gone a long way. I started writting this new story last week when my charger for my computer got damaged. I couldn't go online so I started to get this idea as I was watching through the kitchen window. I started writing and writing. I've been taking it slow so that I could develop each chapter as much as I can. So far I have the first five chapters. I'm taking a break today so that I can catch up on all the stuff that I have to do. I'm really happy right now. Have any of you written a book and how hard was it to get those idea out and onto the paper? How long did it take you?

Congrats on getting so far along in your new book. Sometimes a busted computer is just what a writer needs to start writing, huh? lol I know it helps me to get work done on my novel. I'm currently sitting at about chapter 18 of what will be a 20 chapter novel, the trouble is, I'm only halfway through the story I want to tell in the first book (it's a trilogy) so I have no idea what I am going to do.. probably write until I hit 36 chapters and then start editing it back down until it's the right size for what I want. This particular book has taken me... forever. I have been working on it, from first deciding I wanted to write it to where I am now, for at least 8 years now. It's a hard road, and I have left it without working on it for literal months to a year or more at a time, but I love the story and am determined I will get it finished one day. I'll sometimes add roughly 50 to 100 words to it, just to keep it moving along. I do have another story that I wrote, just over 80,000 words, that I wrote in under a month years ago - back when I could literally eat, sleep and write. Before I had other things I had to get done. Now my pace is slow and steady, but I'll make it. Hope you make it too, good luck!

Well I wish you all the best of luck. It's good that you have gotten so far and just hang in there and pretty soon you'll see your book in print. Wow under a month! I wish I could do something like that but since I don't live alone I have so many more responsibilities. But I would just love to get into the place where I just write all day long without doing anything else. Good luck to you too.

wow Family.....a 20 chapter book that's turning out to be a 40 chapter one !!! You definitely will have to do some space crunching. Read Stephen King's "On Writing". In this book he tells about how he got started writing and selling his stories, how long it took for him to write the different books, etc. It is a pretty good book. Sometimes I have problems writing 5 to 10 lines here on mylot let alone the 80,000 that you have done!! Anyway, keep up the work.

Thanks. I also have a lot of stories like you in my head but I have trouble getting them out. This is the first one that I have worked on and have gotten really good results.

Hmmmmm......sounds like it WAS a good thing that the charger quit working...ha! Anyway, I think it's great that you were able to be so productive on your book while you had the chance. Back in 1971, I got real ambitious and started writing a story in a notebook I had with me while I was on a family trip to Massachusetts. Watching a movie was what inspired me to write it. It was an old western. Actually, it turned out to be pretty much the same story as what the movie was...hahaha. Anyway, my step-grandmother had read what I had written (and I didn't even know that she had) and she said that she really liked it. Well, that ruined it for me because I didn't want anyone to read it until after I was finished with it. Well, needless to say, I did not finish writing the story. Anyway, back to you....Congratulations on your first chapter and hope that many more will make it to your paper!

Yeah I am so happy that i did get to be productive. I just hope that I get to finish this book this summer. Oh wow! You should have finished or at least go back now. But yeah I get like that sometimes too. I make sure that no one sees it but then I let my little brother see it and read it to see what he thinks but he just pretends he's reading it so it doesn't help much. ^_^

Congrats. Writing five chapters can be difficult. Well getting one done can really be a huge task to take on. I'm working on several short stories and a screenplay at the moment. The only problem I'm facing right now is procrastination. And I think that's mostly due to writer's block. But I haven't given up. I'm just waiting on a few ideas that haven't quite reached me yet, lol.

Thanks and yeah that is what happens to me msot of the time. I really can't get the ideas out or they haven't reached me yet. Sometimes I do procratinate when it comes to writing because I guess sometimes I'm afraid that the same thing will happen with my ideas and they won't come out. It's like I'm playing hide and seek with them and they are kicking my butt!
