I don't smoke so I didn't realize how much it cost to buy a pack of 20 but I was just in the line behind a very young girl that bought a pack and almost fell down dead! I said " How can you afford them?" She said "I had to babysit for 2 hours for these!" Sorry but I was speachless! I asked the clerk and he said due to new taxes they has gone up $1.25 a pack. So I asked him if these were new ciggs and he said the new shipment won't arrive till next week. So I guess he is charging that tax prior to having to pay it. I do not condone smoking especially in the young but that seemed wrong too. Thoughts?

It's sad that people are smoking at such a young age. I think that is absolutely terrible. As for he price, good! Maybe it will discourage people from smoking.

My brother smokes and spends a fortune on ciggarettes. I can't see it. It is an expensive addiction to have. Glad I don't buy ciggs anymore.

Hi raydene! That is really expensive and that is wrong for the business owner to do. I have noticed that too in many businesses that they usually raise or increase their prices even before the next stock arrives. They make more profits doing these. Take care and God bless!

I suppose he has to make a profit where ever he can but yes it is wrong to charge the new price before the new stock. Ellie :D

Here in Ontario they've passed a law that requires vendors of cigs to not display them... they have to keep them hidden from public view. Gone are the "power walls" behind the cashier. Also, the purchaser has to provide proof that they are at least 19 years old. I don't smoke either, so don't know the price of a pack but I think it's somewhere around the 8 to 10 dollar mark.

Hi friend! I don't smoke either, but my late husband did. 3 years ago, we were shelling out $160 a month and it was literally going up in smoke. He tried to quit several times, but never could. In the end, it was ciggarettes that were the cause of his cancer. Such a shame that a young lady would choose to take that path!

I don't smoke either. I have always had trouble breathing as is. Smoking would just make that worse. It's so bad for many reasons and can cause cancer and birth defects. I'm glad to hear that you have resisted the temptations. If I were a smoker, I don't think that I could stomach paying yet another tacked on tax. Gas prices are ridiculously high as is. And, now smokers will feel even more taken out of their wallets. I gues someone has to pay for progress. Price of politics and war. Be well. Have a beautiful day.
