Have You Given Up on Helium?

Just wondering. I haven't been there forever and I wonder how many of you have given up Helium since it changed its paying policy? I haven't been there because I don't have time to rate and I would prefer to use the time to mingle here at mylot.

Hello wondericequeen.
I am still earning a few cents a day on Helium, so , no, I haven't given up completely. I noticed I am now down to 3 rating stars there (from 5) and if I don't start spending a few minutes each day on rating articles, it will go down to zero. Then, I think Helium will not pay me for the current "contest" they are doing. You have to have at least 1 writing star and 1 rating star to earn a little extra each month (I think).
There's no doubt that one of their last "contests" of sorts, called Rewardathon pretty much turned me off to the site. I felt such pressure everyday for so long to write and rate that I just pushed myself to do rating until the last day of it on April 15th. The second that arrived, I was so burned out that I couldn't hardly make myself go to the website.
Plus, the rate of earnings seemed to drop so drastically after the Rewardathon, it just didn't seem worth it anymore. I'm sort of sorry I put the articles on there that I did as they can't be removed and placed elsewhere.
I'm feeling a little ripped off that the rate of earning was higher when I put the articles on Helium, and then they drastically reduced it. Now, I am stuck with earning practically nothing on 119 articles. Oh well, live and learn, I guess. I am hoping to get over it so that I can at least maintain enough stars to keep earning the pennies. Take care.

Hello mythmo.
I had heard this before but thought I noticed something in Associated Content's terms that said it must be "original" work, which I interpreted as not ever been published before.
Also, I thought Helium said something about checking if what was posted there was online anywhere else and that if they found it, it had to be published under the same name or else they would consider it plagiarism. Alas, I use a different name at AC than I do at Helium.
I need to check this out as I think I could make a considerable bit at AC if I were to upload 100+ articles there. Thanks!

Well, yea I got annoyed with the fact that you have to rate to earn now. I have been really bored with rating. But I hope you do well, because you have so many articles there and that shouldn't go to waste.

I haven't given up since I'm only about 6 dollars away from payout. The most I've received is 4 cents a day. The least is nothing. Right now I'm getting 2 cents a day.
You were trying to write a bunch of articles for that challenge they had going. How many did you end up writing? Did you end up getting very much money?
If I could have kept the 4 cents a day, I could have gotten paid on my anniversary of joining mylot which is today, but with only 2 cents a day, I may be into next year before I reach payout, so I need to find more articles to get me to 4 cents a day again. Take care

I got like 7.5 out of that program, I think I ended up writing 4-5 articles and leave it at that. Together with that 7.5, I managed to get my payout and before they changed their paying structure.

I'm close to 20 dollars. I didn't write for the reward-a-thon. They wanted too much information. Besides I write when I have something to write. Not because of competition. Besides, look at all the people who ended up burned out because of it. Take care

I am so losing hope with helium these days. After writing nearly 100 articles, I still have to see a writing star, which means I don't earn any of the reward programs, I rate regularly and have 3 stars on it but as long as i dont get that writing star, I get nothing. To add to it, these days I hardly earn 1 cent a day, the earnings seem to have dropped and dropped after the reward marathon. Marketplace has been another issue, inspite getting top ranks on articles, my articles are not purchased, making me feel utterly disappointed. The whole rating and ranking seems worthless, I mean if a top rank can't sell a article, what can?

Right, that must be frustrating! Now I would prefer to use the time to write here on mylot or do something else. I absolutely hate rating there (makes me sleepy and drowsy for some reason) and that's why I don't plan to go there in the short while.

I have sort of forgotten about Helium from time to time and I'm not surprised if a bunch of other people have too, because of the contempt they showed for their loyal membership. But I haven not resigned, it is just that if the telll me I HAVE to rate more, that is when I stop rating altogether. It isn't a fun site anymore. I'd rather put the same effort in at Triond or A/C where they respect their members and do not play favorites with those who kiss up and turn a blind eye to improprieties.

I haven't resigned and I just don't like to rate at all! I would rather spend the time on mylot or my website. So I guess I will revisit the site later but maybe when I am really really free!

Yeppers, I think the TOS still reads that we have to write ONE or rate ONE every 6 months, and if we croak our heirs can keep collecting the royalties as long as they do the same. There might not be many pennies streaming in, but they are our pennies.

I'd say that I really have given up on them. I used to earn really good money on the Marketplace and then all of a sudden they changed and articles that used to be worth $50-$60 an article are now only paying $8-$24 and it's harder to get accepted. That was really annoying for me. I'm not going to take 2-3 hours to write an article only to be paid $8.
I still have my associated content account as well and don't write for them either but I get $2.50 - $5.00 a month from them for the views my old articles have. So I keep that account open for that.

Really? Geez, I guess their business is not really that great! I got annoyed with the fact that I have to rate and well, I just don't see the point of rating when I could better use my time!

Helium was the first writing site I have tried but I am about to give up and try elsewhere. One of the reasons is the same as yours. It takes too much time to rate.
The other reason is that its getting very difficult and time consuming to try to figure out what channel an article fits in. By just letting people name their own channel, there are so many that kind of fit, but not perfectly and I can't figure out where to post my article. I spend way too much time just trying to pick.

Right, I just find that spending that much time there stresses me out.

I haven't been active there for a month or two. My stars had dropped also. But I never guesssed others too are not interested there. I will write there, but payment has gone down in the past weeks. So that's discouraging.

I had not read the new TOS at Helium.
I was still publishing but did notice
that I hadn't earned anything.
Maybe I should be rating articles
more.
Thanks!

No, I have not given up. I don't spend as much time writing lately, but that's not just Helium, that's everywhere. They are doing the writer stimulus bonus, and they are paying more than normal for a couple of months. Yes, you have to rate, but now that they show stats you can see exactly how many you have to rate in order to get or keep your star. No more guesswork and wondering.
I actually think it's only fair to require rating for payments. The site is set up to rely on rating, so it wouldn't be right to pay the same amount to the people who take the time to rate, and to those who only show up to post an article once in a while and check earnings. No one said rating is fun, but it's necessary. Plus, it's an opportunity to read other people's articles, and reading is always a learning experience.
It's not as if they are asking for a lot- just 40 rates every 90 days. Surely, you can find the time for that.

The rating is horrible and most of those rating have no clue what good writing is.

I have not given up on helium but nor have I been writing there very much either. Mainly because I have not been writing but that is another story. I have been checking my income there regularly though and it is growing ,uch quicker than normal so fingers crossed I will find inspiration to write soon.

Not really. It's been a few weeks since I posted something on there. And I see they are having another Rewards-athon. So now my interest has doubled. Sadly I don't have any stars right now. I did back in April, but they vanished on me, lol. I now have a goal to gain three stars so I can enter this writing contest.
