For me it would be the Great Gatsby. I thought the characters were not likeable at all (Gatsby living in the past, nick whines too much, daisy/tom didnt care about anyone but themselves [which nick came to realize]).

The two books I hate most in the world are academic. One is Blaming Others, a book about the AIDS crisis that I had to read as an undergrad for my Political Economy of AIDS class. The second book is called Empire and was supposed to be the seminal work on globalization and politics which is my dissertation field (or at least was at the time). Personally, I think everyone overrated that book because one of the authors was incarcerated. That doesn't mean you can write. I got through about forty pages of the 600 page book.

My two worst are Heart of Darkness and Wuthering Heights. Both were extremely overrated and rather unrewarding reads. I'm convinced that Conrad, a non-native English speaker, merely wanted to show off his knowledge of obscure English words in Heart of Darkness and forgot about the plot. And Wuthering Heights was a convoluted mess. I don't think you could pay me to read those again.
